Your LCD backlighting system is not functioning.Your LCD main board should detect the problem and would give you and error code.This needs an immediate service.See if the Tv is under warranty then you can return it an get a replacement.It usually the inverter that has the problem but also either one(even just one)baclighting bulb goes off it will shut off all the backlighting bulbs,thus a sound with no picture as a result.

I'm happy to have found your reply because I have a similar but slightly different problem. Since a few days ago, when I turn my 42LG30 TV on, I see the input source in the upper right corner (fx. HDMI 1) and after 2 seconds the picture just fades out to a black screen. Sound can be heard though. After reading your answer here, I would guess that the problem in my TV lies with the inverter and not in the bacllight since the screen shows for 2 seconds every time I turn it on. This happand of-course 1 month after the warrenty expired - damn. Is there a chance that I am right?
