Try using other headphones to your unit, if it plays, the problem is in the CX400 indeed. usually caused by unintentional yanking & other factors, the internal of the wires were broken, it can be fixed yes, with patience and some soldering skills, just find the appropriate cable for that particular model, with imagination you can even use other headphone cables, ;-)

When I plug my headphones in why doesnt the sound come out of the headphones?

Where do you plug in the phones? if it is an iPhone. the music playing will be stopped, just to precent your ears to be damaged. When plugging in headphones, while the volume is high, the sound level can be so high, you can damage your ears. Yes damage that will last the set of your life, because loss of hearing, can't regenerate. For that reason some MP3 played, cill stop music playing, as soon as a headphone is plugged in.
Just start the music that was playing when you did lower he output volume if the music stops.

Headphone/earphones only left ear plays

Either the plus is not completely inserted (most likely) or a wire is loose or the earphones are damaged.

My ipod crackles and my hearing seems to be getting damaged

Id say you should go see a doctor. But for now id say that you should do your best to not listen to it for a while as it can affect hearing. try to use full on speakers if you can. On you tube there are a few Sub-Woofer sound tests you can do. Try playing one (low volume) and repeat. (not a song one)

http://www.teenbuzz.org/ also to hear which frequencies are out of range to you click here. ( click the second icon on the list further down the page)

But yeah go see a doctor. Perhaps some ear drops.

Motorola S9 headset plays music in one ear

I had the same problem with a Samsung phone. There are two ways of fixing this; First, you can remove the S9 profile from your phone's bluetooth list, and then add it again, going through pairing and entering 0000 on your phone when asked for the code.
Alternatively, you might try pressing the "play" button on the right earpiece on the Motorola S9. This is supposed to kick it into the A2DP stereo mode for music listening.
Good luck.
And get a copy of the manual from the Motorola web site at http://direct.motorola.com/ens/s9/Headset_Home.asp I found this very handy for checking what the little flashing lights mean. When you get stereo reception, the little LED in the middle of the headset flashes green, not the usual blue and red and purple for voice calls.
In case you didn't know, as a phone headset, with the microphone activated, you only get sound in your left ear, and the light flashes blue. For music, you get both ears, and it flashes green. So if it ain't green, you are in mono mode.

My left earbuds on my JVC gummy earphones went out.

I have this problem all the time with my JVC earbuds. This may sound a little gross but it will work. I put the ear phone in my mouth and **** on the end of it pretty hard. What I have found is that sweat or even wax will plug the little hole and prevent the sound from coming out.
