I`ve set up my philips digital terrestrial receiver DTR220 and i`ve scanned for all channels, but i can`t pick up any because my aerial is not picking up any signal. I`ve tried different, stronger aerials but they still don`t work. I`ve also tested the digi box on another tv and it works fine, could it be the fact my tv is above the main tele downstairs and somehow interferring with the signal im trying to pick up? Please help! thanks

I actually moved my tele to the other side of the room to see if it would work in a different spot and it took me ages to get some signal by moving my aerial around. The signal still wasn`t strong and i didn`t have alot of the channels and then i turned it on a few weeks after and it was working perfectly. Don`t ask me why! :s

How do I auto scan my youview box

You must have it connected to an aerial which receives digital signals into the aerial socket at rear.then go into the menu of the youviewbox and auto scan for all the channels it can pick up.i assume your aerial is pointing in the right direction.you can get a rough idea by looking at any aerials on neighbouring houses.once it completes the scan you must save or store those channels before exiting the menu.then the epg ( electronic program guide )will update and you should be able to select any program using the remote.i also assume the box is a working model and not been corrupted by a failed firmware update or damaged in anyway to any rear connectors.these boxes are very simple to set up so if you do get stuck you can try using the free fone number for talktalk.

I have a brand new technika tv 216/54g. It has freeview built in. I have a brand new indoor digital amplified aerial also technika but I cant get it to pick up any stations. Do I need anything else? please...

Hi there,

You don't necessarily need anything else, but you may not have a strong enough signal to pick up the digital/freeview channels using an indoor aerial. It could also be that the indoor aerial is not correctly aligned.

If the signal strength is lower than approx. 50%, the TV may detect them during the automatic channel scan but it wont store them. When the signal strength for any digital channel is 50% or lower it's more or less unwatchable - the picture would be constantly breaking-up or freezing and the audio drops out continually. Trying to scan for channels using an indoor aerial is rather hit and miss. Numerous attempts may be necessary before you get any channels.

Assuming you have a roof aerial, it is far easier to temporarily connect the TV to a fixed aerial point while you run the automatic channel scan. The TV will store all the channels and you can then move it to it's permanent location and connect the indoor aerial. You can then adjust the indoor aerial with the channels already stored until you find a location for the aerial where you have a good signal.

Doing it this way also eliminates the possibility of a fault with the TV and confirms that you are performing the channel scan correctly. If the TV is connected to a fixed aerial point and you are still unable to receive or store any channels, then it's likely that you are performing the channel scan incorrectly or there is a fault with the TV.

Please try scanning your channels using a known working fixed aerial point. If you are still unable
to receive any channels - or you don't have any fixed aerial points - please post back for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

I have an Alba 32880hdf freeview tv. I cannot record freeview programmes to my panasonic NV-FJ 780 vcr which has 2 scart sockets. I have no problem recording the teresteral channels. Can you help pls

Hi Victor,

You can't record the Freeview channels from the TV. It doesn't work that way. The reason you can still record terrestrial channels is because the VCR is still connected to your roof aerial with a co-axial cable and the VCR has its own built-in analogue tuner for recording terrestrial TV programmes.

To record the digital Freeview channels, you will either need to connect a separate Freeview set-top box to the VCR, or buy a VCR which has a built-in digital (DVB-T) tuner.

The VCR does not record programmes from the TV. It needs to be connected directly to the signal source, i.e. your aerial.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know.

Have problem with Philips On digital terrestrial receiver (DV3). Since the digital switchover in Bolton, where I live, it wont let me do an update. Can't get any channels now. Stewart

Try unplugging the unit from the wall, unplug the Aerial cable from the box. Plug the mains back in and switch on. Do a channel scan (with the aerial still unplugged). Reconnect aerial and do another scan. With luck it will have flushed the old settings and pick up the channel changes.

I cant receive freeveiw channels

I don't know what make of TV you have but some manufacturers have two tuners at the rear of the TV. One for terrestrial signal & one for digital signal. If this is the case put the aerial into the digital input & try retuning. If this does not work then if you could provide the details of you TV eg. make & model, then I will try to help you further.

No signal on teristeral but able to watch tv through sky

This could be down to several things so sorry if this is long winded but really needed more info from yourself...

Sky gets its signal from the dish mounted on your exterior wall.

your terrestrial signal comes from your terrestrial aerial be it external or internal.

If you do have an aerial cable coming into your property and it is connect to your television. Go into your TV MENU and set it away on Auto Tune if this does not come up with any channels. Try auto tune on your built in Digital tv ie DTV if it has this option...

If neither of these work then you need a new aerial or it needs to be re-aligned.
Personnally I would not bother with a Terrestrial Aerial You already have Sky installed so this will be fine for when the Whole of the UK goes digital. Dont be fobbed off by people telly you that you need a Digital aerial as your sky dish is already Digial anyway.

Hope this Helps

New aerial wont pick up digital reception and fuzzy picture on terrestrial channels

Hi.

If you put aerial up your self was it wide band aerial ?
Is it in the atic or on the roof ?
Have you used decent quality cable (not the cheap stuff)
How long is cable run from aerial ?
Have you checked that when you fitted rf plugs that none of the braid strands are touching solid copper inner core ?
Ask an earial installer or Tv shop what the signal strength is like in your area.

Connection problems with Philips DTR220

There is such a thing as a HD areial, but in this case it sounds like you need to point the antenna in the right direction. If your freeview is digital then there is a diredtion the areial needs to piont, and there is a front and a back to it. You need to find where the signal source is located and point the areial in that direction.

Philips DTR220/05 digital freeview reciever not recieving anymore

If the box is still receiving some channels, then the box is probably not at fault.

If you have done the full "First time Installation" rather than search for new channels, then eithe the aerial, connection or signal is likely to be to blame.

There have been several changes with the Freeview service over the last few months, and there will be more in the run up to analogue switch off.

In some cases, channels have moved, and in other cases the service has been switched off for a short period, low power etc.

Check the aerial on a standard analogue signal, if the quality is poor, then this rules out the box.
