The fader slider will have to be replaced. It is a bit of work, however finding the exact replacement often is hard unless you get it through the manufacturer.

Try a head cleaner first and if that doesnt work then look around for a new cd player or use the computer as if its what i think it is then its not reading correctly and it not really repairable ,Well financialy viable as i think the memory reading of the circuitry is questionable.
DO NOT USE CONTACT CLEANER !!!!!! It removes the lube.... If you can find it there, use CRC226 in the faders. You MIGHT be able to restore the fader with it. With the spout put a bit right in the center of the slot and work it. Here I get it in the electrical dept of Home Depot... not sure what they have in New Zeeland. Replacing the fader takes a lot of labor as the panel has to be completely disassembled. You can probably order CRC226 online if you can't find it in a store there. Here it is about $2.75 for a can.
You MAY have contamination in the slider.You could try putting a little CRC226 into the slot and work the control. Use ONLY this product CRC226 available at Home Depot in the electrical dept/
You connect POWERED speakers to the left and right outputs... You MUST use POWERED speakers or an external amplifier. This unit has a small headphone amp, but that CANNOT power passive speakers.
