Gestetner dsc232: Scanning used to be done by sending email to exchange server. We dumped that in favor of 3rd party offsite email hosting. Now trying to link this 3 in 1 device to my desktop. Printer is functional and now I want to enable scanning directly to my desktop. I downloaded the appropriate twain package and look for the device in my add scanner window and nothing appears. How can I get my desktop to see this device and load the driver?

How to scan documents to an email address

you should first right click on yoru destop and find "NEW" click on "make new folder", then type a name for the folder (anything you want). Now go to your scanner software and find the preferences and tell it to save scanned documents to your NEW folder. another option is to simply scan a document and when its done, click "file, save as" and save it to your new folder. When you are done scanning, open your email program and type in the email address to where you want to send the documents. when you are done typing the "subject" and a short note to whomever the mail is too, go to "insert" or "attachments" (varies depending on you email program). find the folder with your documents in it and hold down the "Cntrl"key and then click each file you wish to include. then click "ok" and all the files should now be attached to your email. BE AWARE, there may be a limit to how much data you can include in your email. If your email provider rejects your message due to file size being too large, simply send the files one at a time in multiple emails. There are also options out there (too numerous to list) that will allown you to send large files that are too big for your email program. I hope I haven't confused you. Good luck

Unable to access mailserver from out side my office

I have no idea what firewall you are using. Your posting is lacking crucial detail and that makes this almost impossible to answer you. However, I use a Cisco 5520 in a Data Center and i Host my own Exchange server. This is what you have to do to allow inbound and outbound SMTP traffic in that type of environment.

name (Internal IP here) Exchange description Internal mail server

access-list Inside_access_in remark Allow internal Exchange Server to send SMTP email outbound.
access-list Inside_access_in extended permit tcp host (Internal IP Here) any eq smtp

access-list outside_access_in remark Allow external entities to send SMTP email to Exchange Server
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any host (Public IP Here) eq smtp

Hope this helps you.

Not getting my email pop3 keep coming up wait for 60 sec . some **** like that.

This is either a configuration issue, firewall issue or an email user name/password issue.

Go to the website of your email web host to obtain the configuration information for your email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird). Most large service providers have this info on their site. If not the information can be found doing a simple search. I recommend Google. The information should include setup for the SMTP and POP servers. It will look something like this example:

pop.server.hostname.com
smtp.server.hostname.com

This is critical and is how your PC establishes communication with the email server. Verify that the information in your email configuration matches exactly. Also make sure there are no spaces in the field where this information is entered.

Verify the ports used for email.
SMTP uses port 25 or may use port 587 optionally
POP uses port 110
Make sure that if you are using a 3rd party firewall application that the firewall is configured to allow traffic on the above ports. If the traffic is blocked no email.

Next is the user name and password.
Most mail host set your email address as your user name.
Password can be reset with a call to the support desk fto your mail host. Be prepared to have your email address, account number, and be authorized to access the account for help when you call.
Once the new password is setup, enter the information into the email configuration.

Make sure to send a test message to verify the workings.

I cant update offsite dns setting

Your first step in setting up DNS for your domain is create some A records, or host records, that point to servers that you are hosting resources (like a website). So, for example, let's say you are hosting a website on a server with IP 13.54.33.21. You'll create an A record for 'www' (without the quotes) to point to 13.54.33.21. This way, when someone goes to www.buy2sale.co.in, they'll be sent to your web server.

I hope this helps!
