Can i use the printer without a color cartridge

Can be a problem regarding the cartridge. What is the status of the color cartridge. Take a printout with the color cartridge alone. If no problem found get your PG40 cartridge replaced. One thing to be noted is that the printer always needs the color cartridge installed. Printer can work with color cartridge alone. But will not work without a color cartridge

You need to have color cartridges installed for your printer to function. You can however print black and white with empty color cartridges. If you do this you may damage the print head and not be able to print in color again. If you can live without color printing I recommend a monochrome laser printer. It will never print color, costs 1/2 as much to print with, won't dry out, and the cartridges last way longer than ink cartridges.

Since you didn't mention the Printer's make and model, I can't make this specific, but what I am going to say is not different. There is no unusual problem, it normal and you can't print as long as the printer detects the color cartridge as empty. With some printers, it's possible to print color (high quality print, or only one color printing etc...) even without black cartridge, but not without color cartridge. The only thing you can do is, refill it or get a new cartridge.

no, there is no way for it use any old 22no. color cartridge.

take out the color cartridge. you will get an error message, but it will work.

You can't use your printer without color cartridge.The printer need both cartridges to initialized.Only with both cartridges inside in printer you'll printing scanning or copying.

It WOULDNT work without a colour cartridge inserted. It MAY just work with an EMPTY colour cartdridge (the only printing black) but it just would not work without a colour cartridge in there

Black ink is an essential part of the printing process. The black color is only made by the black cartridge, the color cartridge does make "black".

No, I've never found one. HP wants you to buy those expensive cartridges. However, you can just leave the empty color in place and ignore the message. It will not print at all without a cartridge in it. When you print black, make sure you set it in your printer options to print from the black cartridge only (there are blacks that use some color in them). Or you can get a black only printer.
