The typewriter is only printing the top half of the letter. I changed the ribbon, that didn't help. I changed to another printer wheel, that did not help either. It's as if the letters are not being struck evenly.

Hi we have an old ibm typewriter. I changed the ribbon and the wheel. I cleaned everything but still prints half of the letters. The top part to be exact.

There should be an adjustment on the head that sets the angle of the strike for the wheel. Unfortunatley there are no diagrams available for this technology

Printing on the top half of the characters

Is your platen snapped down all the way? Can you look at the ribbon and see where the letters are striking the ribbon?

My typewriter prints the bottom half of the letter. Do I need a new wheel or a defective ribbon. This started when I changed the ribbon.

Most likely the ribbon isn't in right. Go to NADIST.COM click on current models you will find a manual there.

Wheelwriter 30 series II. was typing OK but now get only less than half of letter to print. replaced ribbon same thing. tried adjusted ribbon (now sure was in right area) and still only printing less...

If it is printing only the tops of the letters the platen has worked loose. Press down firmly on both ends it should snap into place. If the print is generally bad the plastic print solenoid cap is probably broken. We sell them for 20.00 includes shipping and instructions.

IBM Wheelwriter 30 series II - prints only half a letter

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.

Wheelwriter 3500 only printing top half of letters

Sounds like the platen is not fully seated in the side frames, align the black latches with the frames and press firmly on both sides of the platen. the latches do occasionally crack in witch case you may need a platen replacement.

Only typing half letters and numbers

On the WheelWriter series, sometimes the platen may pop out of position, causing only half the letters to print. If this is the case, easially solved... Using the left and right platen knobs, firmly push down to lock it back in place. Hope this helps....MediaMan
