My camera is actually a U Tough 6000. it is about 1 1/2 years old and was bought in Australia. Everything seems to work fine except the shutter won't open. when I turn the power on it just beeps several times then turns off. if there are pictures on the card, i can view them. I have tried holding it under running water and turning it on/off. I don't think anything unusual happened to thee camera between uses.....just tried to take a picture one day an had this problem. I am currently in Indonesia and don't know where I can have it serviced here. Many places say they are authorized Olympus service centers when they are not. Your help with at least understanding the problem would be greatly appreciated. Vicky

I had the same problem and all I did was play around with the shutter .. I took a soft tooth pic and played around with the shutter, it seemed that salt from the ocean had crusted around the edges .. once removed the camera worked fine .. hope this helps
ps I had even bought another battery thinking it was the problem since when I connected the camera to the computer it worked, but I hadn't realized that when connected to the computer it's not able to take pictures, hence the shutter was not used ..
needs repairing at a qualified shop
when was it last cleaned or serviced ?
if you think the camera is worthy, since its old how much is it worth to you vs a new one
i have a canon zr60a all seems to work fine but it seems to have the shutter closed and ive tried everything .can anyone please help i bought it from a lady needing to pay a bill wonted to help but seems she stuck it to me ....lol now im the one needs help thanks [email protected]
Are you talking about the shutter, or do you really mean the automatic lens cover ? Take a look at this first to see if this is what you meant. Make sure you read the comments also for additional tips. I don't think it will be necessary to open it up to fix it. Stick with the easy tips, they should work, especially if this is happening occassionally:
Sorry for the late reply but have just joined the web site. If the camera has got wet then that is the cause of all you issues. There will be corrosion on the circuit boards causing the unit to short out and in turn affecting the operation of the camera. Generally any warranty even extended (in Australia) will not cover water/liquid damage in any way.
if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons :
1) defective switch.
2) defective flex cable.
3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.
