Wheelwriter 1000 When typing for the first time this year on the school typewriter, the lettering is only coming out on the top. It doesn't matter if I am using small or upper case, it's only printing the top half of each letter or number I use. I replaced the ribbon and took the wheel out and inserted it again to make sure it was down all the way, it works for a little bit but then it stops printing the bottom half of the letters. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. School Secretary

I tried pushing everything down and everything is in place and only the top of the letter is printing. It makes the imprint of the letter but only the top half actually prints in black.

    Any more suggestions?

Be sure the ribbon dosen't have any folds in it and that it is properly inatassed also check around the ribbon for any debris.

There should be a little gear beneath the carriage you can turn, which will lower it:

We have 2 Wheelwriter 1000's that need repair. They type whatever letter they want instead of what the operator types. I need to find someone who can repair these

Befor you spend the money look and see if the LANG light is lit on the R. side if it is CODE "L" will get you out of this mode. If that's not the problem I'm sure we can repair them.

Lexmark/IBM Wheelwriter 1000 Typewriter has been in storage for 3 years. Dusted off/cleaned out today. Types fantastically, all functions work, except it keeps automatically resetting the margins. Tried...

First try a little shot of WD40 on both sides of the silver shaft that the carrier slides on. If that doesn't do it you will have to get some on the carrier motor bearings located in the R. rear corner under the case.

My IBM Lexmark 1000 Wheelwriter auto corrects last letter typed after I hit the space bar.

Sounds like a keyboard problem, either it is failing or there was a spill on the keyboard. Contact George Beyers Co. For a rebuild or replacement. 800-392-8085

10 pt printwheel printing 12 pt spacing

Some type styles do have thinner print than others. The pitch is automaticly selected when you change printwheels. You can measure the pitch by printing 12 letter "i" and putting a ruler up to it.
12 spaces per inch is elite and 10 is pica.

Wheelwriter 3500 only printing top half of letters

Sounds like the platen is not fully seated in the side frames, align the black latches with the frames and press firmly on both sides of the platen. the latches do occasionally crack in witch case you may need a platen replacement.
