Have a Maytag MER5730 oven and the oven stopped working. The upper heating element is working but the lower heating element is not. Have replaced the lower heating element and it still is not working. Lower heating element has continuity and voltage is going to both red and yellow leads of element when oven is plugged in. Not sure what else to test or look at now. Thanks!

your Maytag range has only a single heating element located at the top of the oven, it is likely a "broil" element, which is used primarily for cooking food close to the top of the oven. The lower heating element, which is typically used for baking and roasting, may be hidden beneath the oven floor or located at the bottom of the oven.
If your oven is not getting very hot, it is possible that the broil element is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. However, if the oven is not heating evenly or is not getting hot enough to cook food properly, it may be a more complex issue related to the temperature sensor, the control board, or other components.
To diagnose and repair the issue, it is recommended to have the range serviced by a qualified technician, who can properly identify the model and locate the faulty component. The model number of your range can typically be found on a label inside the oven door, on the back of the range, or on a storage drawer beneath the oven.
the upper element only comes on when you broil or clean with selfcleaner. the bottom comes on when you are baking, it sounds like your bottom element is bad.
I suggest that you remove the upper and lower heating elements to the oven, turn the oven switch to on, then use a good digital voltmeter, and check the plug that the lower heating element was in. If you have good (200 volts or more) then purchase and install new heating elements. Turn the oven switch to Broil setting and check the same way for the top heating element.
Yes, replace the lower element by first turning off the circuit breaker to the oven (110V is still to half of the 220V element circuit even though the oven setting is turned off), then unscrew the two screws holding the element to the back wall of the oven, then pull the element out (may have to tug it a bit to get the connectors through the insulation), and pull the wire connector clips off the element.
Steps to check element. TURN off breaker that feeds oven. Unistall bottom element in question. With a continuity tester see if element has continuity. If it does not then element is bad, replace it and turn on breaker. If it does you need to call a technician because the next step requires voltage testings that can shock you if done improperly..
If this is an electronically controlled range, then sadly the problem is probably in the Electronic Oven Control and the only repair is to replace the EOC. We are at the mercy of poorly made electronics. AJ
dmiller58 If all your connections are solid then your controller is defective. Did you get any faults before changing the element? Does the broil (one at the top of the oven) work?
oven got very hot and then stopped working
