Hm. Not sure how much help I'll be, but I'll give it a shot.
- Make sure the device is charged for at least 6 hours if this is its first use. If it isn't, charge it for several hours anyway and try it again. Make sure the charger is plugged all the way into the outlet and all the way into the device (mine sticks out about an eighth of an inch, yours might too).
- Call customer service at 866-204-4714 and describe the issue. I had something a little like this issue (I was stuck at "Literati" screen) and they said to drain the battery and recharge it fully to see if it made any difference, and that if it didn't work they'll be sending along a package to ship it back to them for a replacement. If nothing works, ship it back to them for a replacement.
How do you drain the battery if it won't turn on?
If it doesn't turn on at all, I know of no way to drain the battery, and have never taken the time to dismantle it. However, when I still had mine I could get it to turn on by plugging it in, waiting a minute or two, and then attempting to turn it on. It would freeze at the boot screen, but at least it would be on. Then unplug and let it sit there, and it'll eventually drain the battery.
Just so you're aware, I didn't wind up sending mine in. I returned it at the store I got it from, dismissing it as a defective item, and got a white Pandigital Novel. I've been using it with excellent success ever since. That's my personal recommendation is to attempt to return it and try getting a different device of the same nature.
Can't sent back because Merc Group are crooks. it was under warranty still and they were going to send a box for shipping it to them. Early part of August is when this happend and I'm supposedly still waiting here in October. They repeatedly lied to me.
I finally took mine apart by placing a butter knife in between the two halves and slowly separated the halves.
I attacked this with the thought of nothing- gained nothing ventured- and was ready to throw out the unit. Something rectified the bad display and its been working ever since.
It may be dangerous for others to use a sharp instrument so I'm just saying that's what I did and it worked.
