I have had similar experiences. I have a VCR sitting near the television. I found that if I keep the VCR turned on then the TV stops changing channels by itself. If the VCR is turned off, then it starts again. Weird, but it worked for some reason.

I have a toshiba 32a32 32" tv, the problem im having is all of a sudden the channels started switching by itself and the volume keeps going up to 100. when i set a channel it stays there for a minute then...

Hello,

The problem is either from the remote or the television, there has been so much heat on the control panel of the television, so it has melted some lead off a part of the control panel and bridging it to another part, so it is increasing both the volume and changing the channel in an upward direction.

The solution is to change the control panel of the television or correct it by using a soldering iron to melt off the lead from where leads meet.

If you remove the battery from the remote and it still does the same, then it is confirmed that it is the televisions control panel. But if after removing the battery it stops scrolling up, then the problem is from the remote and the solution is for you to replace the remote with a new one.

Take care and good luck

CHANNEL CHANGES BY ITSELF

The remote may be malfunctioning. Take the batteries out of the remote and see if the problem stops.

Channel keeps changing

If you are using the remote to change channels it sounds like either the front of the remote and/or the receiving “eye” on the TV need to be cleaned, OR (more likely) the button on the remote is sticking. It is actually a button that pushes on a membrane under the entire remote panel. This is generally caused by some sticky liquid (like Coke) getting spilled on it. If you are brave enough, you can take the remote apart and clean it with denatured alcohol. Otherwise you need to replace your remote. If possible borrow a universal remote and see if it still happens. If that doesn’t fix it you have a bad IR receiver and/or a serious internal problem.
