If your Zebra LP 2844 printer is experiencing shifting or off-center printing, there are a few possible causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:
Check print settings: Ensure that the print settings on your computer or label design software are correctly configured for the label size and layout you are using. Make sure the label dimensions and print margins are set accurately.
Calibrate the printer: Perform a calibration on the printer to ensure it is properly aligned. To calibrate the Zebra LP 2844, follow these steps:
a. Turn off the printer. b. Hold down the feed button. c. While holding the feed button, turn on the printer. d. Release the feed button once the green status light begins to flash. e. The printer will feed labels and automatically adjust the label alignment. f. Once the printer stops feeding labels, the calibration is complete.
Adjust label position sensors: The LP 2844 has label position sensors that detect the start of each label. If these sensors are misaligned or dirty, it can cause shifting or off-center printing. Clean the sensors using a lint-free cloth and ensure they are properly aligned.
Check label alignment: Ensure that the labels are loaded correctly and aligned properly in the printer. Make sure they are inserted straight and centered in the label guides.

Define your label size correctly. Measure your LABEL exactly, do not include the backing paper or the gap. Calibrate the printer. HOW? Power off printer. Press and hold the green feed button down and power printer on. Count one, two and release green button. The printer will calibrate and move labels and then print some stuff on the label. Wait until it has comletely stopped. wait another few seconds and the press the feed key once. The printer will print "out of dump". You should now be ready to print again.
Troubleshoot to see if the problem is with the printer or the software. Turn the printer off and back on again for fresh start. After the POST (power on self test) press the FEED key and see if the printer feeds just 1 label. If it does then you know the optic sensor in the printer has a good read on label size. If it feeds more than one, then it needs to be recalibrated for label size.
If it feeds 1 label, then print a format. Now if it prints 1 label and then feeds blank labels, you know the problem is in the label software you're using or in the printer driver. The printer will only do what it's told to do.
At least this way you can narrow the problem down to the printer or the software.
Do a calibration, this should fix the issue. Also make sure that the label stopper (silver peg on label holder) is pressed firmly against the labels. This will stop the labels from sliding around during a print, throwing off the calibration. Also check to make sure the sensors are free of any dust.
It's possible that the printer did not get a good calibration on the size of the label. There's an optic sensor looking for the gaps in the labels. A test would be to turn the printer off and back on again. When it is ready, just press the feed key. If one label advances then the printer had a good read on the label size. The idea is to see if the printer works ok by itself first.
Now print a label - if you get two labels then you have to look at the software / printer driver as the cause. The printer will only do what it's told to do.
You need to calibrate. Hold down the feed key while powering the printer on, then let go. The printer will calibrate, print a config label, then fo into dump mode. Press the fee key again to go out of dump. Of your issue persists, there could be a problem with yoru media, or with the commands that you are sending to the printer.
We have found a reset that we use.
We unplug the printer and then we hold down the feed button and we keep holding down the feed button while we plug back in.
It goes through some sort of a reset and this sometimes works.
