The usb ports on my v2000 no longer work. When I plug in any usb device it is not recognized.

Try reinstalling the usb drivers for your computer. You can also check to see if its a hardware issue by pluging a usb powered device like a cooling pad in the usb port. If it gets power, chances are its a software issue. If no, then its a hardware issue.

Click on start. Then click on Run.
Type in MS config.
Uncheck load startup Items.
click on ok and then click on restart.
Any application which turns on and starts using your port when the computer turns on would stop loading on their own and you will have free ports to use.

Do i have a serial port on my v2000

The v2000 does not have a serial port. You would have to get a USB-Serial adapter to make that sort of connection.

Compaq V2000 freezing

Please select F1 to boot the Notebook into windows. If it is not booting then please try to boot the Notebook into safemode.

Restart the Notebook and keep pressing F8 key the select Safe mode to boot. If the issue persists in Safe mode. To isolate whether the issue is with the software or hardware. Please restore the Notebook to factory settings. Before restoring the Notebook backup your data.

If you are unable to restore, I am afraid that you need to take the Notebook for repair.

Thanks

Compaq V2000 notebook freezing

you dont have much memory for your notepad. you must have at least 20% to do anything like that.

to check to see if you have at least 20% you need to do a disk defrag and than that should help.

Compaq Presario v2000 w/ dead USB ports

I have the same problem with my Compaq Presario V2000. Lost both USB ports and HP tells me that the motherboard has to be replaced at $300 +..I searched and found a PCMCIA card with two USB ports for $10. No problems with the USB ports on this card..great and cheap solution.
My belief is that the compaq usb ports do not have power limiting circuitry therefore allowing you to overload the output power on the ports. My ports failed after I downloaded into a burglar alarm system I was programming.

USB Ports crashing system

If you have done a system restore you have probably restored your problem with limewire also, although what it is that's related I don't know, it's more than likely a dial up or connection problem that is causing limewire to freeze yur system. Check your usb ports in device manager see if there is an exclamation mark or a cross, then refer to this solution for further checks. http://www.fixya.com/support/t125452-another_device_installation_underway
