Often a dark screen is an indication of a problem with the BACKLIGHT or the INVERTER CIRCUIT.
After it flickers briefly at the start, is the screen still illuminated but without a video signal or is the screen completely dark?
Does the TV screen glow at all when it is on, or is it completely black even when viewed in a darkened room?
LCD TV's especially this model are succeptible to premature failure of the power supply and inverter circuit boards which power the backlights.
If the problem is just the power supply or inverter circuit, there is a chance that it is a relatively easy fix for someone who is handy with a screwdriverr and a soldering iron.
However If you are not a fix it yourself kind of person for this type of product then you might be looking at an fairly expensive repair bill for parts and labour (at least $100). Outright replacement with a brand new set that comes with a warranty may be a more economically sensible alternative.
