I have just been trying to Inception Blu ray on my ps3. However it came up with the error 80029940. I then tried it on my brothers ps3 slim and seemed to work fine. So what should I do. Thanks Zak

Simply try it again tomorrow. every since the first playstaion there have been mysterious "my playstation just doesn't like this movie" type deals. usually works fine if you try again later or watch another movie first. happens more with rentals

It was the ghosts in the machines that say "I don't like Leonardo DeCaprio, watch something like Robin Hood or Gladiator with Russell Crowe, he is much more *** kickness" and then spit your DVD back out at you in dismay!!! Or... I guess it could have just been bad programming for the firmware of devices made for the entire Playstation platform....that somehow get overlooked in every generation... I'm leaning more towards Russell Crowe. =D

Will it play anything? The laser eye may need to be cleaned. Sometimes the drive will play DVDs but not games, or games and bluray movies, but not DVDs .... in that situation, the bluray laser may need to be replaced

Hi, It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.

either the disc is faulty, wrong format or wrong region.

The error code 80029940 refers to a disk read error.

Does this happen with all blu-ray disks or just some. Also try to play a DVD do you get the same error or do they play fine.

Also let me know me know the model of PS3 you have and what games you have play fine. This will help me see where the problem is at.

That error is a read error, which means that either your drive is having issues, or the disks are faulty.

With that said, if you have several legit blu-ray films, and they all don't work, I would say that your blu-ray drive is malfunctioning. If that's the case, you'll have to get Sony to repair the unit for you.

The only other thing I could suggest is to try unplugging the unit from the wall for 10 seconds and plugging it back in, see if a power cycle helps you out.

Ps3 60gb won't play blue ray movies

It's your blu-ray drive.

They last only 1-3 years with average use. It's a Sony defect.

The laser is three part (cd / dvd / blu-ray). The blu-ray is usually first to go.
