My Hoover Windtunnel shuts off after 2 minutes of use. I have replaced the bag and filter but it still shuts off.
I found the following solution on this website. I have searched for hours and finally found this solution, it works! I HAD the same problem after cleaning the filter mentioned below, it is now working like it was new.

yes this machine has a thermal protector in it to shut off the machine
if it gets to hot, this is normal. if there is no clogs in the hoses or
in the machine then you will need to wash the filter at the top of the
machine. you will have to remove the dirt cup and at the top you should
see a half moon orange, well inside of this piece is the washable
filter, clean and let it dry completly before putting back into
machine. if this gets dirty and has not been cleaned, you can lose alot
of suction. in some cases if this filter is not cleaned it can cause
the machine to overheat so bad that it can damage the motor.
No is not normal .. not after 2 minutes

I had same problem. Turned out to be the filter that sits above the waste cannister. Remove the waste cannister. There is a little orange lever that releases the filter. It was caked with dirt not allowing any air flow causing the motor to overheat.
This foam filter gets dirty pretty fast.

I resolved this issue by cleaning all the area where the roller resides. There is also a second compartment (plate) that must be clean under the roller area. It is located on the right side, you will see the screw holding the plate in place. This vacumm depends of air cooling and if for any reason a duct is cloged, it will activate the thermal switch to protect the motor. After cleaning the the roller area, my vacumm worked without shuting down every 40 seconds. I went ahead and replaced all belts and filters as well, as a preventive maintenance. I hope this help.

So glad I found this site! I didn't even know about that filter above the waste canister! Mine shut off and I had no idea what a thermal protector was until I looked in the book. Found that filter and it was so clogged I'm surprised it didn't shut off before. Boy did i feel dumb! That'll teach me to read the book!

The thermal protector gets messed up if it has to trip too many times, and can start tripping as soon as it barely warms up. I had to bypass my thermal protector and just go over it very completely to make sure theres no clogs or dirty filters often, as it costs $50+ to have the $80 vaccume serviced... recommend getting a less cheap vaccume intended for heavier duty next time around.

In order to prevent the aforementioned problem I cut out all of the Hoover filters, dramatically reducing the motor's workload and extending the number of consecutive minutes for which I was able to vacuum without triggering the thermal protector. The thermal protector itself is the next component that I intend to disable.
and then you used the vacuum with no filter? how does that effect it's functioning?
My filters were causing the shutting down of less than a minute running. I cleaned the top filter and removed the bottom one as I didn't have one to replace it. While waiting for the top filter to dry I went ahead and ran my vacuum, it never shut off not once! Not that I would suggest doing this, but I figure one time is not going to hurt and I needed my vacuum right then. I will wait for the top filter to dry and put it back in, and maybe I will order a new bottom one, maybe not! Also I pulled my cord completely out (and it was pretty hot) and will not run it with it in there again. Seems to me you get better air flow if it is not in there! Hope this helps someone out there as I was ready to take it to the dumpster now I'm so glad I didn't!

Sounds like you have a clog, which is a fairly common problem with these.
Check the air inlet immediately aft of the brushroll for clogs, then make sure the main wand and hose are also clear. If you have the machine on, check at the end of the hose for suction. This is a fairly common problem for all uprights with tools on board. Their airflow is very low, so they tend to clog up easily and then overheat the motor.

Tried different outlets, tried waiting for it to cool a bit, tried emptying case. now i just washed filter, but will have to wait till it dries for results.

I have the same problem. It's as if a circuit gets blown but I can't figure out where- and at some point after resting it resets.

will shut the vacuum down if the motor begins to overheat. While this could be
caused by a failure of the motor or thermal protector, it is important to
remember that a vacuum works on air flow. Air that is brought into the bottom of
the vacuum travels up the hose, into the bag or canister, and as the air exits
the system; it blows over the motor cooling it. If there is a restriction in air
flow, including a clog or dirty filters, the air may not be flowing over the
motor to cool it and the vacuum could be shutting down because of this. We would
recommend checking all filters, especially if they have not been replaced yet
this year, check for any restrictions in the air flow and check the force of the
air blowing out of the unit. If this does not help to identify the cause of the
unit shutting down, we would recommend contacting a service technician for a
proper diagnosis and inspection of the motor or thermal protector. For

Hey, me too. Depending on the carpet height and how much it has been used that day, it may shut off by itself after a few minutes.
Thank you for the response. I did fix it by taking off the cover over the brush roller and cutting away the hair that had accumulated around the roller.
Mine started doing that a few days ago
