SOURCE: Need detailed diagram of 1998 latch mechanism to remove connections from it

there is no diagram... the latch is also a non-servicable latch, so if your problems in the latch- it needs a latch. i would look more closely at the outside door handle itself as i have seen a few of them break on the E series vans.you may be able to get detailed instructions thru autozone.com or @ autozone. hope this helps and good luck

SOURCE: Exterior rear door handle on Honda Accord 2001

To Remove Door Panel on 2001 Honda Accord:

A: To remove the plastic piece with the door lock button and door handle connected to it:

1- Remove the screw in the middle located behind a plastic cover button
2- Push (slide) the whole assembly Forward (toward front of car)
Besides the screw, it is held in place by 3 hooks on the backside that hook into holes in the metal door frame
3- Now unhook handle from small metal bar going through door by pushing (toward door) plastic clip (blue?) off of the bar, then the bar will come out of the clip hole, thus releasing the handle.
4- Depress little grey button /bar (purple painted on it)on elec. connector to seperate connector, thus releasing door lock switch

Now the whole assembly (metal handle, door lock switch, and plastic piece) will come off door panel

B: The door is held on by 2-screws, 7-plastic snaps/plugs, and 1-plastic plug.

The screws are located: bottom of hand hold and the other behind the handle, both covered by little covers that have to be pryed off to access the screws.(hint: the screw with the built in spacer goes behind the handle when you are trying to reinstall)
The 7-plastic snaps: 3 across bottom and 2 on each side. Not visible, they are mounted to the inside of the panel.
The 1-plastic plug is visible at the upper front of the panel and is the same color as the surrounding trim

C: Take off the big plastic triangle piece above the door panel and behind the mirror. Pull/pry off. It has 2 snaps holding it on. one near bottom and one near the front.

D: Light lens prys off from bottom. Unscrew (1/4 turn) the light assembly with bulb still intact from backside of panel

E: Remove the Hand-Hold/window switch assembly:

Try "clearing the cache" by removing the negative battery cable for a few minutes. Before doing so, be sure you know how to reset the clock and radio codes & presets.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe rear driver side door the outside door handle never worked you can only open it from the inside. accidentally flipped on the child safety lock now I can't open the door at all

It is fairly clear the door handle has detached from the wire that releases the latch. As you cnnot open from the interior handle currently you can only detach the door card and reatach the wire to the door handle. You might have to remove the seat adjacent to the door. I think it is probably a weekend job if you intend doing it yourself. There is no other way it could be done without inflicting damage I think. Essential for safety if you are carrying children/pets in the rear
Good Luck

Hi.
Heat will not help and can damage the door lock mechanism further.
You can try lubing the door lock, but I do not thing it will help. I think there may be something wrong with the mechanism, or you will get the same problem from outside and inside.
If the door is opening from the inside , then the door lock mechanism My still be working. On VW the outer handle is connected to the lock by a steel wire, or by a metal shaft.
To access the door lock you need to remove the internal door panel. The door panel is held by hidden screws located on handles and by a set of clips located behind the panel near to the panel border.
I have service manual for several VW models, I will see if I can find the manual for 1995-1997 Passat and I will eventually send the diagrams to undo the door and access the lock.
