Hi
You have to get the IP address of your internet service provide and once you type this IP address to the address bar. It will go you to menu set up of the router and set it up there. The encode the new password set up.
Please try this solutions:
1. When connecting to wireless setting, you need to delete the old connection and also the new connection and then set it up again. It will set up the internet IP address automatically.
2. Go to Wireless internet setting and then click on IP adress and then click on obtain IP setting automatically and also, click DNS setting automatically.
3. If not, change also the WPA to WPA 2
Okay, please try it and let me know if it solves your problem. Regards
Procedure for setting up the WAN - wireless access network
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA). The encryption key can be easily set up using a passphrase (it can be an alpha numeric phrase or words).
7. For further security measures, turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

It means that the router isn't properly configured. There are 2 separate configurations that must be done:
1 - the configuration of the connection to your ISP: basically in there you must input the data you received from them - what type of connection you will use, if it needs a username and password, what type of if and (if it's static) the IP, Default Gateway and DNS settings. This will be inputted in the WAN section.
2 - the configuration of the router itself: basically you set all to auto so the IP addresses are handled automatically by the router.
You can do that manually, by going to each section, or you could use the Easy setup that is available in the router's first page. BTW to access the router you go to 192.168.1.1 with your browser, preferably when the router is wired, not wireless connected - default username and password: admin.
You haven't said what type of connection you have, with which ISP and , most importantly, if you have a static IP or a dynamic one. Without that information all i can say is that your router appears to be set for a simple LAN connection - one in which the connection is authorized based on the MAC address. So you either you need to input the PPoE data (username, password , VPI and VCI) in the settings or you need to change the MAC to the one recorded by the ISP (or change the one in their records to the new one of the router)
If you have cable, and not ADSL, from BigPond then almost surely it's a PPoE connection. It's a username-password connection that must be configured accordingly (the MAC has no importance here). VPI and VCI are the data transmission characteristics that are mandatory to be inserted for a secure connection. All the data is written in the contract. Detailed instruction, on each type of connection, can be found in the manual, at page 6.
Yes, if you have indeed a PPoE click on it.But before that you must configure it correctly - you need to put the connection data settings. Phone BigPond and ask them what kind of connection you have and where are the settings in your contract - or to give to you directly.

Thanks for that information. We have the ISP cable connection details you have mentioned. However, I am unsure about where to put some of these in the router's software interface page.
We have tried to do some of the steps you mention using the router's PDF manual. We tried to use the Easy setup on the first page of the router's software. We have set everything to automatic as both yourself & the manual have said to do.
Yes, we already have the default address for the router from the manual. However, the error message: "You have set the wrong dynamic or static address for your RT-N15" page directs us to the WAN settings page of the router's software. We do not know where or how to change the routers' address on this page, or on our computer. Please tell us how to put this information in on the WAN page.
On the WAN page of the router's software there are the following fields:
1). WAN - Internet Connection
WAN Connection Type (set to Automatic IP)
ChooseIPTV STB Port : (Set to None)
Enable UPnP/ (Set to Yes)
2). WAN IP Setting:
"Get the WAN IP automatically?" (Set to 'Yes'. This button is greyed out, so cannot be change it to the 'No' option).
IP Address: (Greyed out, can't be changed)
Subnet Mask: (Greyed out, can't be changed)
Default Gateway: (Greyed out, can't be changed)
3). WAN DNS Setting
"Connect to DNS Server automatically?" (Set to 'No' option, & have entered the DNS Server 1 & 2 info from our ISP).
4). "Account Setting". (All fields are greyed out).
This section has a question at the bottom of the section "Enable PPoE Relay?" which is set to the 'No' option.
MTU: (Set to 1492)
MRU: (Set to: 1492)
5). 'Special requirement from ISP.' (All of these fields are pale & can have information added to them).
VPN Server:
Host Name:
MAC Address:
Regards Jem
Thanks, here is that information: our connection type is DHCP, cable broadband with Telstra Bigpond (in Australia), dynamic. I have no idea how to find out the MAC address recorded by the ISP, though I noticed there is a MAC address shown on the ASUS software page. Is this what you mean? What does VPI
Do you mean I have to click the ‘Yes’ option in the “Enable PPoE Relay?” question to allow this information to be transmitted? When I do this, then press the QIS button
I have rung Bigpond. They say that the modem is already set up and they do not provide these kind of settings at all. Is there anything further I can do here?
The router is not asking me for these settings to set it up. It is asking me for the IP address of the router as it appears on the network & its subnet mask to be put in manually.
The only other settings the router asks for are the DHS primary and secondary server and the default gateway, which we already have, as mentioned above in the previous postings.
Thanks for sending me that info, it is greatly appreciated. I have to get ready for work now, so will have time to try this tomorrow evening.
Cheers Jem
Hi benjz,
Thanks for all of your support, we really appreciate it! We have tried all that you suggested & also received an email from ASUS technical support. I'll copy the ASUS suggestion here, in case it helps anyone else:
"For the problem, before start setting up router, please first connect the modem directly to your PC, if the IP address on your PC is 192.168.1.X(X=2~254), the problem should be caused by IP conflict since your modem and RT-N15 use the same LAN IP.
To fix this problem, you can change the LAN IP of the router to 192.168.x.1.
Please cable connect from RT-N15 LAN port to PC, note do not connect your modem to RT-N15.
Open internet browser->typehttp://192.168.1.1 in address->both user name and password are admin-> LAN->Change LAN IP to 192.168.x.1, for example:192.168.2.1->Apply.
Please wait for 1~2 minutes, your PC's IP address should be changed to 192.168.2.x."
However, nothing has worked! Due to the time constraints of study, we just can't continue searching for information to get it going. We bought a 2nd hand dlink DIR-615 router on ebay & managed to set it up easily. The ASUS RT-N15 is now listed on ebay in Sydney for $75.00 if anyone wants a bargain - just not for the novice users like us!
Thanks again, you have been great! Cheers fruit-bat.
