I need one of the adapters for my Meade 1209 zero image shift microfocuser used on LX200gps. It is the 'L' adapter on the instruction page, used to attach certain 2" accessories. Where can I find one? Meade is backordered for 3-4 months.

You might find one USED on astromart.com and or on the classified at www.cloudynights.com.

You can also try a few Meade dealers that may have one here is one dealer:

Can you tell me the communication setup for the xl200GPS MEADE 8 inch telescope. Like the comm Port number along with the other settings. Thank You.

If you mean the LX200GPS from Meade, http://www.meade.com/manuals/505ccs/index.html#tc gives the following settings for the AutoStar RS-232 Serial Com Port:
Baud Rate: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bit: 1
Flow Control: None
http://www.meade.com/manuals/autostar/apb.html has the pin assignments for the 4-pin and 6-pin adapters that connect to the RS232 cable.
Most versions of Windows from WIn95 on will automatically assign the serial port an unused IRQ port if you add a add-on card to a PCI or PCIe slot. (USB to serial port adapters should be able to do something similar with the above data.)

I hope this helps.

My LX200gps 10 inch microfocuser has quit. Earlier my power button was intermittent, now it works. The handcontroller alllows you to slew, but not focus. I used spray contact cleaner in the power and...

When you plug in an outside power source the internal batteries are disconnected- automatically. First thing I would try is all new cables Sounds like the motor inside the focuser died.

My LX200GPS fork is blocked and cannot rotate manualy while the RA lock is loose. Could anyone help please?

This is a major project. You will either need to return it to Meade for repairs, or be ready to almost completely disassemble the telescope to get to the motors.

Contact Meade first:

Lz200gps doesn't boot and I can't communicate via com1

Before you panic, try a new hand controller cable. You can buy these from Meade or for a better one from www.scopestuff.com

"Autostar II: if you need to use Safe Mode to recover from a disaster,
turn on the telescope, and key 999 before it says "Initializing"
The Autostar will say "Flash Load Ready"... now go start the ASU.

Read this page all the way through--

Can't communicate with serial port

You need the Meade cable and if you do NOT have a serial port then you also need a USB- to serial adapter cable.

Keyspan makes a good USB0-Serial adapter cable.

Check the PORT number in the software and make sure it is the one the computer is using.

I've made every possible alignment on my 10 inch Meade LX200GPS telescope, training,set-up, calibration, etc...but when I slew to a star....it is ALWAYS very far off in Dec....though RA seems to be well...

You might want to join the following Yahoo group:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/LX200GPS/

I am not familiar with the LX200, but there are probably folks on the Yahoo group that can help.  The only thing I can think of is if you are using a wedge and the wedge isn't at the correct angle (should match your lattitude).  Or you are not using a wedge and the Meade controller thinks that you are.  But one would think the calibration would solve that.

Focusing problem with meade LX10

The focuser is poor at best in that series. There is an enhancement kit from Scopestuff.com that helps a lot, but the real fix is to get a crayford style focuser (zero backlash). The LX200GPS series has them as standard. Rough focus with the main mirror, and finish with the Crayford focuser.

Meade LX200GPS 8" won't initialize on power up.

Try doing either a garbage collect or a safe load-- and then reinstall the hand controller firmware--

Instructions-- depending on the type of controller
Autostar 495 or 497: You enter Safe Mode by holding the [enter] and
[scroll down] keys pressed when you power up the telescope. The
Autostar will say "Flash Load Ready"... now go start the ASU.

Autostar II: if you need to use Safe Mode to recover from a disaster,
turn on the telescope, and key 999 before it says "Initializing"
The Autostar will say "Flash Load Ready"... now go start the ASU.

LX200gps: BEFORE proceeding further, click on the OPTIONS item on the Top Bar.
Now click on "Garbage Collect Hbx" ... this will perform data cleanup
within the Autostar which will avoid potential mess-ups.

Can't upload data from computer

Check and define/ assign your com ports thru autostar and consistantly use the same port everytime you connect.
Also some usb to serial adapters are unsuitable ; dont ask me why but some work with autostar and some just dont, belkin adapters almost never work but the keyspan brand works reliably. I had the same problem and the kspan adapter plus comport set up sorted it.
Hope this helps
