How to get into Service Mode on SONY KV-S2942U (1994 vintage)? Have entered this before using -plus & minus buttons- then switch on to get TT on screen. Entering 01 then MENU should bring up Service Mode, but the normal TV MENU now appears instead. Is there a number to enter to reset the system?

The service manual instructions to get into service mode is by turning the main power switch on the set. Then press the power button of the remote commander twice.

Hello
Standby light on Sony TVs blinks 16 times is abnormal I thiks. It may come up to 8 blinks or so. You jsut switch off the set by AC mains switch at the front panel, switch it again with it and count the exact numbers. Never switch it On_Off by remote hanset.
If it happens even after this process, you just do the following
Press the following button on your remote control as stated "Display"_"Channel"_"5"_"Vol Minus" [not plus] then "Power".
You may get "OVP" "OCP" "V STOP" etc displayed on the screen.
Just report the result to me through Fixya. Ok.
It means that something in the power section has failed, and the system goes into standby (safety) mode.Could be a fuse, resistor,or IC.Does it blink? On your remote you could press display,channel,5,volume - (minus),then power, for the diagnostics,.....for service mode press display,channel,5,volume + (plus) then power, press 8 then enter
There is a power issue,tv goes into standby (safety) mode. For self-diagnostics, press Display,channel,5,volume - minus not plus, then press power. You have no horizontal output, check IC206,C516,C515....for service mode press Display,Channel,5,volume + plus, then power,press8,then enter......hope this helps....
1. look at the side with the most buttons.
2. select channel you want to set, eg, channel 3 button near top.
2. slide the outer casing down 1cm to reveal 5 extra buttons.
4. from 5 extra buttons, press diamond with arrow button, then plus or minus button to find station, then diamond again to set.
Just Press Menu> scroll or Navigate or Select Auto program, then press enter> (to Move press volume button -minus or +plus, and to enter or OK press TV / VIDEO) then select auto program to automatically scan channel. Choose Air if you use outdoor antenna,if cable choose Cable, whatever the result ,just post so i can assist..
