Clearing the Maintenance Count and Service Message: HP LaserJets
If the display panel on your HP LaserJet reads "Perform Printer Maintenance", "Perform User Maintenance", "Maintenance Kit Low", "Maintenance Kit Very Low", or anything along those lines it means your printer needs a preventative maintenance kit, which includes a fuser and various rollers. Once you have installed the maintenance kit the message will only go away if you clear the maintenance count.

Ricoh SP8300 SP mode (Service Mode)
To Enter SP Mode (Service Mode)
Do one of the following:
If the power is already ON, press the "Home" and
"Simple screen" keys at the same time for more
than 3 seconds, and then press the "User tool"
key.
or

If the printer is OFF Press the "Home" and "Suspend" keys at the
same time while turning the main switch on.

Reset for Maintenance Kit A or Maintenance Kit B
So the "Replace Maintenance Kit A" or Replace Maintenance B" message will go away.

Once in SP Mode (Service Mode) press the following:

"ENGINE"

"SP-7XXX" - "DATA LOG"

"7804" - "PM Counter Reset"

"6" - "ALL CLEAR"

"EXECUTE"

In service mode:
SP7804
7804 1 Paper
7804 2 Transfer Roller
7804 3 Paper Feed Roller
7804 4 Fusing Unit

Take note:
SP5930 001 Meter Click Charge

This setting is for machines where the operator is responsible for replacing the Maintenance Kit.
(PM counter resets automatically after the user replaces the fusing unit.)
[1: Yes]
This setting is for machines where the service technician has responsibility for servicing the machine.
The service technician must reset the PM counter after completing machine maintenance.

Need to reset count for pm to clear out message

On most similar Ricoh models, the "replace PM kit" message will keep flashing until the PM kit is replaced, but this shouldn't hinder operation at all. The machine will keep running until one of the parts breaks down, which depends on how old everything is and how hard it is worked.

Basically, the flashing message is a reminder to replace the maintenance kit as a preventative measure, but it does not NEED to be done until something actually breaks.

First of all make sure it is the right kit. The part numbers for teh 8550 and 2424 are very close, one ends in 675 the other in 657, so they have been known to be mixed up.

Problem:
The machine displays the Replace Maintenance Kit after the Maintenance Kit has been replaced.
Cause:
There may two causes for this issue.

1. The machine does not recognize that the Maintenance Kit was removed. This would likely be caused by a defective Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate.
2. The machine corrupts the CRUM on the new Maintenance Kit. This may be caused by a defective Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate or IO Board.

Solution: Fixed! Did not fix.

1. While the Replace Maintenance Kit message is displayed, remove the Maintenance Kit. If the displayed message does not change to "Maintenance Kit Missing," replace the Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate and install a new Maintenance Kit.
2. While the Replace Maintenance Kit message is displayed, remove the Maintenance Kit. If the displayed message changes to "Maintenance Kit Missing," replace the IO Board and then install a different NEW Maintenance Kit. If the problem persists, replace the Drum Maintenance Pivot Plate and install a different NEW Maintenance Kit.

This will require servicing:
The maintenance kit contains a maintenance roller that keeps the surface of the Imaging Drum clean and oiled.
NOTE: Order a new maintenance kit when the Display Screen displays a message that the maintenance kit is low. Replace the kit when the Display Screen prompts you to replace the maintenance kit. Both a Standard Maintenance Kit and an Extended Maintenance Kit are available for the Phaser 8550 and 8560; however, only a Standard Maintenance Kit is available for the Phaser 8500. An Extended Maintenance Kit will not be functional with the Phaser 8500.

WARNING: The printer's interior may be hot! Do not touch the hot surfaces.

Once you have the part: instructions:

1. Open the door on the right side of the printer.
   
2. Grasp the maintenance kit (labeled A) from the maintenance kit slot and pull the kit completely out of the printer.
   
3. Insert a new maintenance kit and push the kit completely into the maintenance kit slot. Follow the illustrated instructions included with the maintenance kit for full installation and disposal information.
4. Close the door.

This will be on the right side of the printer.
This will need to be replace every 10,000 sheets of paper.
