do any of the "techs" responding have any electronics background at all. Please don't answer questions if you have no clue. The person who said the the plasma has tiny flourscent bulbs has a drug problem. Must have gotten that answer from a comic book.
i have seen on some of those models bad power supplies. if you take the back off the tv you wil see a board in the top center that is the power supply board. you may have about 8-9 vented capacitors towards the left hand side of the board. they will look like they are exploding on the top some may even have black residue on the top that is the leaking electrolytic fluid. they will proabaly be 3300micro farad at 16volt high temp 105degree capacitors.
It sounds like you may have a Y sustain board failure. If you open the set, the large board to your left is the Y sustain. Most of them have part numbers on the board and you can order it from a LG supplier or LG them selves. 1800-243-0000
I hope this helps

Hi A common problem for these is bad capacitors in the power supply, Remove the back from your TV and look at the power supply on the left hand side.
You will see roughly around 9 x capacitors that are bulged / domed shaped on top usually these are valued at 3300uf 10V any that have bulged or leaked a brown like substance should be changed. This will cure the problem as they overheat being sat next to a heatsink that gets very hot! Try and change them for the same 3300uf but a higher voltage. Hope this helps
Hello: It maybe that your left side inverter board has failed. They are used to light the lamps in your LCD display, also may have a bad LVDS cable connecting to the panel. Have a technician check the inverter boards if bad have him replace both sides as the other one may fail also. Also this could evidence of a bad Panel assembly.
Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.
