Pentax Optio S with trouble A90

A few weeks ago, I fixed subject issue by using FWDC110P.BIN.
Now, it's back with the same A90.
The actual 1st screen using the secret method :
++ KB341 ++, PR : 03. 02. 27. 16. 34, LD : 2. 00, MI : 111
Possibly important, when I launch System Initial, it does the operation for a few seconds, does not indicate COMPLETE, screen turns black then A90 appears.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have attempted to do the System Initial many times & the screen never reach COMPLETED. Since I don't get a completed initialization, I think it explain my issue.

Is there any other file or method to complete the System Initial ?

    Thanks

The firmware mentions : Click the Windows link below to download the self-extracting firmware archive file (s7_e101w.exe).
    I don't have the link...please supply.
    Thanks

The file FWDC159P.ELF is alone on the camera SD card. Batt is fully charged, SD card in, I hold down the Menu button, I press & hold the ON button, the black screen indicate VER 1.00 a few seconds then A90 comes back.
Is it a desperate issue ?
    Thanks

Not sure as if that is the same one you have already tried or not

  • Ekse Jul 29, 2008

Don't update the firmware if your camera is not Pentax Optio S4 the firmware is ment for Pentax Optio S4.

  • Ekse Jul 29, 2008

Seems you have already used the correct firmware update to fix the issue, I suppose you have noting to loose to try it again.

Other than that I suggest you contact pentax for service.

These instructions are for another firmware but basicly the same thing.

    FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS - WINDOWS:

Click the Windows link below to download the self-extracting firmware archive file (s7_e101w.exe). Click SAVE to save the download file to your computer's hard drive. Saving it to your desktop, for example, will make it easy to find after the download is complete. Please note: this download file is not the firmware update file itself, but a compressed archive that must be expanded in the following step.
Next, double click the download file to expand it. Once expanded, you will see a readme text file (README.TXT) and the firmware update file itself (FWDC159P.ELF). The readme file contains instructions similar to what you are reading on this page.
You must now copy the firmware update file (FWDC159P.ELF) to your camera's memory card. When you connect the camera directly to your computer (or if you use a card reader), the memory card appears as a removable disk drive in the My Computer window. Make sure you are using a blank/formatted memory card, then drag & drop (or copy & paste) the firmware update file (FWDC159P.ELF) from the desktop to your removable disk window, which is the camera's memory card. Please note: You must put the firmware update file (FWDC159P.ELF) directly onto the removable disk; it cannot be in any sub-folders. It must be on the top (or root) level of the removable disk.
Now that you have copied the firmware update file (FWDC159P.ELF) to your camera's memory card, you are ready to install it. Make sure your camera is turned off and disconnected from the computer. Make sure that the memory card containing the firmware update file is inserted into your camera. Also, make sure you that you have adequate power in your camera. We recommend you use a Pentax AC adapter to perform the firmware update, but if you do not have a Pentax AC adapter, make certain that your battery has a full charge.
To begin the update, turn your camera on while holding down the MENU button. If you have followed the above instructions precisely, the camera will begin to load the new firmware. You will see the message "NOW LOADING" then the camera will display the firmware update menu.
Select "YES" using your camera's 4-way controller (the default is "NO") then press your camera's OK button.
The camera will now update its firmware. This may take a couple of minutes, so be careful to not interrupt the process.
When the update is complete, you will see "COMPLETE" on your camera's LCD screen. Turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
With the memory card removed from the camera, check your new firmware version by turning the camera back on while holding down the MENU button. Before you begin to take pictures again, be sure to format your memory card to erase the firmware update file.

How do I solve my A90 prob?

I just fixed a friends Pentax Optio S4i.
You want to extract this file.
File name : O4IE101W.EXE
Format your SD card in my computer. Open the O4IE101W.EXE on your desktop. It makes the file fwdc124p.bin. Put the fwdc124p.bin on the SD card.
I did save this file on the flash card.

Then I fully charged the battery (I got this from the Pentax site)
I opened the "secret menu" by pressing the MENU-FLASH and the POWER button at the same time.
Once menu opened, I pressed the FOCUS twice then (FLOWER, MOUNTAIN, MF) symbol twice after this two toggles to the right with the OK button.
Then press the MENU button once again.
So the menu screen open now.
Down toggle of the OK button, go to ROM UPDATE then go down to "SYSTEM INITIAL" and press OK. Press another OK to re-initialize your camera.
Once this has been done, turn your camera off.

Turn camera on again opening your camera with the MENU+Power ON procedure...finally this should be posting "Complete" after the "Loading"
When it shows Complete, turn camera off.

You are finished and your camera should be ready to work again.

At least this is how I fixed my friends A90 error message.

The firm ware is here:

ERROR A90

from internet:

An A90 error means that there is a electrical fault on the main printed circuit board, and can only be repaired by sending the camera in for repair through your Pentax dealer.
I hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction.

my sugesstion is after reading this go to your pentax supplier and ask them for a investigation repair (the don't repair yet but investigate what is defect and how much the repair costs would be (normaly is that you pay a amount of money and mostly it is deducted from the repair bill if you decide to let it be fixt. (ask them if they would act so , otherwhise sue them for a not good product)

A90

A- I have a Pentax Opio S hence I had to get the "fwdc110p.bin" file here:

http://www.badongo.com/file/707791

B- Drop this file on your SD Card at the root directory (same level as DCIM folder) or as described by the following link and then close your camera to OFF:

Attention: Do not load this file yet onto the camera i.e. the menu+power on procedure, follow step C first...

Important!!! Insert a fully charged battery or connect to an external power source.

C- Open the now infamous "Secret Menu" in order to re-initialize your camera prior to re-installing the new firm ware: Simultaneously press MENU + Flash symbol button + Power ON...a white screen with data written in black should show.

Then a sequence of buttons must be pressed: 2 times the focus button (flower, mountain, MF symbols button) followed by 2 toggles to the Right of the "OK" button...then press MENU once and voile...the Secret Menu appears!

Using the down toggle of the OK button, go to ROM UPDATE then go down to "SYSTEM INITIAL" and press OK. Press another OK to re-initialize your camera.

Once this has been completed, turn your camera off.

D- Load the firm ware by opening your camera with the MENU+Power ON procedure...finally this should be posting "Complete" after the "Loading" message, instead of the "Error!" that we initially kept on having.

Your camera should be working perfectly! Only thing is that you will have to redo your personal settings on it from scratch...but hey, this is much better than to wait for months to get your camera back from Pentax and save that money for your next photogenic trip!

OK Guys...After fidgitting for hours on this with the bits & pieces on this forum & on others...here's how I got it to finally work:

Optio S4, S4i & S5i shall use another file. Don't really know for S4 but for S4i & S5i, there on the Pentax customer service website at:

http://www.pentaximaging.com/customer_care/software_firmware?sfFlag=f

B- Drop this file on your SD Card at the root directory (same level as DCIM folder) or as described by the following link and then close your camera to OFF:

A90 just appears after switching on.

I had the same problem.
After starting up 20 or 25 times with the fwdc110p-file the problem was fixed.

Where do I get the file:fwdc110p.bin ?

http://www.badongo.com/file/707791
You can download the file from the above site - I think this might be the exact reference. Then go to the most recent entry on this site for the secret menu process http://forums.steves-digicams.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=82905&forum_id=24&highlight=A90

Rember to place it on your card at the same level as the DCIM file, not inside it like I did at first. It came zipped so you will need to use Winzip. I will now try and polish this a bit on that site while it is still fresh in my mind.
