Try reformatting the SD Card. If you have a computer with an SD card slot, insert it in there, right click on the card, and click "Format..." If you use a Mac, use Disk Utility to format the card.
Hey, I just tried formatting it, but this did not work! Still has the '!CARD ERROR' on the left hand side. Is there anything else I could try?Hey, I just tried formatting it, but this did not work! Still has the '!CARD ERROR' on the left hand side.

You may have improver card fitted. Please remove and re fit the card. If problem persist , please try another good / new card. If you have no problem with new card, your existing/previous card is broken.
A 4GB card will be an SDHC (high capacity) card, not a an SD card. They fit the same slots, but they aren't the quite the same, and some cameras won't work with SDHC.
The S7000 cannot handle cards larger than 2GB.
If you need 4GB you can also fit a 2GB type 2 compact flash card which is the american standard.
For europe you will get a type 1 card this will also fit it is just slightly thinner.
