My kidde carbon alarm chirp every 30 seconds and shows L6 on the dispaly, also the red light goes off and on

How many times does it chirp

If the alarm chirps every 60 seconds and the red LED flashes with "Lb" this indicates Low Battery.....replace battery as soon as possible!

The red LED will flash as described below under the following
conditions:
--During smoke or CO alarm, with every beep
--During testing (same as alarm)
--Low battery, single flash with chirp
--End of product life, double flash every 30 seconds with chirp
--Unit error mode, single flash with chirp
--Unit error mode, a Fault Code is flashed every 30 seconds (can
be observed and reported to customer service for
troubleshooting. Above is the user guide.

L6 is actually "Lb", which is a low battery warning. If the 9V battery is missing, or if the battery's power is low, an "Lb" message will display, which blink's alternately with the current CO reading, while chirping. If this happens, you need to replace the battery.

The manufacturer has written this in their manual for your unit...

"Err" displayed -battery icon may show any state of battery capacity. One quick beep every 30 seconds. Unit is Error condition

Replace batteries. If "Err" (or blank display) continues, unit has malfunctioned. Replace immediately.

There are 2 things you can do:
1. Check and change batteries.
2. Clean them. Ensure they are completely clean.

If that does not work, you can ask the local fire dept. to look into it free.

Other than that you will have to take it in for servicing/repair.

If detector is more then 5 years old it will beep every 30 seconde to wirn you the sensor in the detector needs to be replaced. bying a new detector would be better.

the sense is bad, unfoturally the unit need to be replaced.

Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (It's not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon: Amazon com Carbon monoxide detector (watch out on reviews). I hope this was helpful. cheers
