Crackling noise I keep getting crackling noise when I turn the volume knob on my wireless headphones.

If you have a skill to solder small parts, you should replace a volume resistor on the circuit board.
The problem is to find this little part (pay for it), and do a good soldering job.
Be honest, it is better to buy another headphone with electronic volume control: two little buttons for volume control - Up and Down, and never face such a problem in the future.

It might be the speaker or it break

  • Anonymous Aug 04, 2011

I contacted Sennheiser some years ago with the same problem and they advised to get some contact cleaner (spray) and I did and it worked. Maybe years of use causes some sort of build up when your finger turns the volume and or tuning wheel, all I know is the contact cleaner worked for me.

Do you mean just crackling generally or it crackles when you turn it up or down? I have a Marantz PM350, old but still great performance, and I periodically take the volume knob off and spray down the hole with a cleaner/lubricant spray. This does the trick!

I have a yaesu ft-736r with no audio

Hi Jermaine,

It transmits, but no receive, are you sure, have you tried playing around with the volume control?

If, so did that make any crackling noise? If so, then this is due to lack of use of the volume control, many radios, including the old transistors with dials, would make crackling sounds when you adjusted the volume, and as I say, this is due to lack of use, So if this is the case and to get your receiving, turn the volume control up & down fully for a few minutes and while doing so your radio might receive a transmission that will be loud, quiet, loud, quiet, etc., as you play with the knob.

Keep doing so until all crackling has disapeared.

Do this often as possible when firing up your radio for the day, the more use these controls get, the better.

I hope this has answered your query.

Cheers,
Peter

Crackling noise with my volume knob when i turn the volume

It's probably dust in the volume control. It gets in between the carbon track and the wiper that rotates on the track, or the resistive / carbon track inside the control is wearing out. As yours is stereo there will be 2 tracks and 2 wipers, one could be worn more than the other.
This should give you an idea. Inside Pot

NOISE FROM FRONT PANEL HEADPHONES+FAN SPEED KNOB

Hi axelmij,

If you are referring to a crackling noise coming from your headphone speakers it could be due to dust or a poor connection.
If this is the case, use an electronic contact spray and spray directly into the headphone socket and inside your fan speed knob mechanism to clear out any possible dust particles or corrosion which may be present.
Hope this solves your problem.
Best wishes,

Hello. With my HD205 headphones, in the left headphone it has a small crackling noise with certain songs.. I don't know if its meant to be like that? Its done it since I had them first - Happens to bass...

There are two likely causes for this. One is much, much easier to fix than the other.
1) You are turning up the volume too much. Headphones, especially non-top of the line headphones, are not meant to be listened to at very loud levels. In this case, the crackling you are hearing is the speaker trying to reproduce a bass sound that is "clipping", or exceeding the maximum output level for that system. Remember - headphone speakers are very small; they have a harder time producing low sounds accurately. The solution is to just turn them down a little.
2) Assuming problem 1 is not the problem, the other likely issue is that they came with some sort of mechanical defect built in. If you are not playing them loudly, but you are still getting a crackle, especially if it is only on one speaker, they probably are broken. It is probably the jack itself, or the wiring leading up to the earpieces. Either way, it is not a terribly hard fix if you have some electrical know-how, but if you don't, there are plenty of people who can rewire them for much cheaper than it would be to buy a new set. However, if this has been happening since you got them, I would call the manufacturer first and see if they will replace them. Sennheiser tends to pride themselves in the quality of their equipment, so I would not be surprised if they sent you a replacement set.
Hope this helps!

Marshall MG50 DFX, the volume knob OD channel crackles

Either the control is damaged (happens if they get hit) or it is possible the circuit board it is mounted on has broken solder OR worse, a crack near the control. The unit will require servicing. Parts are readily available.
