I have a gr-dvf21 camcord that I want to use on my sons wedding... I need to copy the video to a pc but I only have usb ports available... please tell me how to do this..

Turn the power switch on your camcorder to "Off." Connect the USB cable that came with the camcorder to the USB port on the camcorder. If you are using the DV cable, connect one end of the cable to the computer first. Put the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your computer. If you are using the DV cable, connect it to the camcorder. Power on your camcorder. Wait while your computer recognizes the attached JVC GR-D270U camcorder. Typically you will get a pop-up on your screen asking how you want to proceed once the camcorder has been recognized. Open your video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Roxie, iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. Import, or capture, the video from the camcorder to your computer using the video editing software. For example, in iMovie you click on "File," then "Import from Camera" to download the movie from your camcorder to the computer.

You cannot connect an analog camera to a USB port. The signals are completely different. There are no cables available to join these incompatible connectors together.

However, you can get videos from this camera, or any analog video source, into a computer. You just have to play them into an analog interface port. These are available as expansion slot cards for a PC. They will come with software to digitise the video input and record it to a file. You don't need any "driver" related to the camera, it is just a video signal. The connecting leads will be standard RCA signal plugs, like on the back of a HiFi amplifier. You probably already have a lead for this.

This model does not support video streaming in USB. Use firewire cable and your pc must be equipped also with this port, if not look for expasion port available like PCMCIA. Firewire cable and PCMCIA card (if needed) are available in most computer store.Good Luck!

You will need a firewire cable and a firewire port on your computer. If you don't have such a port then you can buy a pci firewire port. The firewire port looks like a usb port but its slightly bigger and on the one end is forming an angle.

I think you may need to connect the camera via Firewire, I've checked the specs of your camera and it seems to be minidv and has a firewire port. A lot of video editing software will not detect your camera unless it is connected via the firewire port. you need to check if your pc has one first of all you can do this by going to control panel/ network connections and see if there's an icon for 1394 Connection if there is then you have firewire, so you then need to see which type of socket it is on your pc and on your camera and purchase a suitable cable. Need to know what type of connections are available on the camcorder.

any cable should do, have you tried the back of the pc's usb ports?
try another pc?

use firewire cable from your dv port to stream video-4-4 pin for laptop 4-6 pin for mac or tower

You are mentioning that you are trying to transfer video though USB port, that is not possible, you have to connect the to the pc through the DV port from the camera to the Firewire port of the PC, if your PC doesnt have a Fire wire port, install a IEEE1394 firewire card in one of your PCI slots.
