The function setting is for the PANEL sustain (Page 68 of your manual)

The other method of sustain is by footswitch or pedal option. See page 13.

If you use a footswitch, it needs to be a normally open contact type. If you plug a Roland type in, it is opposite polarity and will sustain UNLESS the pedal is pressed. Make sure nothing else is plugged in the sustain jack... headphones that are inadvertently plugged in there would sustain.

Hi ,Thanks for the guidance.I have checked the panel sustain and it is showing "off" in the function . The sustain happens now even without the sustain pedal being plugged. can you pls guide me how to get back to normal mode if i guess if a polarity change has happened due to any false operation during my previous play.

Normally this keyboard reads the state of the pedal at power up to determine if it is a normally open or closed.. Try powering up with the pedal pressed to see if it reverses the state.

If this doesn't work, find the "factory reset" procedure and do that. I don't think there is anything you can do during play to cause this. HOWEVER, if you have recorded/saved a song, the state of the pedal MAY be stored with the song and will come back whenever you load or play the song.

Thanks, can you pls tell me where i can get the factory reset procedure ,since i have tried duing power on by holding the highest white key to restore the setting.

  • Fred Yearian Mar 08, 2011

Two things. You can also clear the files by holding the top white and the three top black keys down when turning on the power. The highest white key should reset the main stuff.

PLEASE NOTE: You typically need to hold the key(s) down until the display indicates the function has been performed. This can take a bit of time.

Where can I get a manual for portable grand D6X640 Yamaha piano

Do you mean the DGX-640? To my knowledge, Yamaha doesn't have a D6X line of keyboards. Most of Yamaha's manuals are available from their support page: http://download.yamaha.com/top/?site=usa.yamaha.com&language=en . The DGX-640 support page is http://download.yamaha.com/search/product/?language=en&site=usa.yamaha.com&category_id=16084&product_id=1056822 . Scroll down to find the owner's manual in various languages and other documents. Yamaha provides javascript links to the manuals on the site; these do not resolve to specific direct links in my browser history.

I hope this helps.

I have ve a DGX 640. When the play the C, followed by D, the D is silent. It occurs also when I play the black key after its white neighbour.

Possibly a rubber contact switch problem.

Open up your keyboard if you feel confident about doing so.

Remove the rubber contact strip under the faulty notes and clear away any dust ( this can be a cause of the note not sounding ) Swap this rubber ( part 220 ) on attached picture with the one next door to it. If the problem has moved to the next octave then it is a worn rubber contact switch replace ( see link )

If not you will probably need to take to a repair centre as it may be more serious.

3 key notes not working and can't write my savings to the banks..

Hi, You can reset your whole keyboard by holding down the top C ( highest key ) whilst turning on.

This is unlikely to clear 3 non working keys. My guess is that the contacts under the rubber switches have worn or dust is under the contacts. You could try cleaning first under the rubber contacts if this fails replace the contacts ( 1 per octave ) Part WF212202 contact me if you need more information

I have a new DGX. My problem is when I want to add a dual voice to the piano. I press the portable grand button then hold the dual button till the violin voice appears then select the voice I want and...

HI, Let me answer the question.

1) Select the DUAL VOICE (not portable grand ) button and hold for longer than 1 second.

The choose voices required.

If you press the Portable Grand button this resets the keyboard top a piano.

I hope this helps

As i play notes on my yamaha dgx 500 some keys remain showing on the little screen until a note or notes repeat continually.i can only remove this by turning it off ,sometimes the notes stop sounding...

Check if you MIGHT be in a "guide" or learning mode. Some Yamaha synths have a mode that will play and then wait for you to hit the right key before moving on. If this is not the problem, a fix is not DIY and will require repair. I assume you are NOT using MIDI as in that case it is called "dreaded MIDI drone" and is due to data looping back into the unit which is an external fault.

How can I send recordings to my laptop? I have a usb connector and i want to connect my portable grand to my laptop but the laptop does not detect the piano and i don't know what to press on the piano...

Hi mjaynneb,

I could be wrong here but I have a number of keyboards and the USB connection is usually for Midi control from software like Cubase and the like. If by recording you mean recording Audio then I think you'll find that it won't be possible using the USB port.

Midi is great and I use it a lot. It enables you to arrange music using your computer. Also you can record the music you play on the Keyboard on the computer as Midi. This means that the computer can play back through your arranger what you just played. Bear in mind though that Midi is purely numbers that represent notes, velocities and note duration so is not actually audio.

My keyboards have the ability to record to SD card or a Hard Drive, however if this is not a feature of your arranger then probably your best bet for recording audio from it is by using the Audio out ports of your arranger and using a connecting lead to a good low noise sound card on your computer. As you are using a laptop you can find external usb sound cards/interfaces so that should do fine. Then you could probably use something like Audacity which is free software, to record to a wav file.

I hope this helped.
Kind Regards

Where, exactly, is the headphone jack on the dgx 640? I cannot find it anytwhere.

Here you go:

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalpianos/dgx_series/dgx-640_color_variation/

There is a an "output phones" to put the headphones into on page 17 of the manual here.

Hope this helps!
