What's up, pinkshade...
It sounds like something is wrong with the contacts. Luckily, this can potentially be solved at home, at no cost, and with relative ease.
What I mean by contacts is that most of these types of devices (remotes, calculators, laptops, video game controllers, etc.) have soft-keys underneath the hard keys which we press that send the signal for processing. These soft-keys can slide off their seat, or they can get dirty, or they can do other crazy things that I've never seen. What it boils down to is opening that ****** up (easy), and looking at that ****** to see if anything has gone awry.
STEP ONE: Get a skinny screwdriver.
STEP TWO: Use the skinny screwdriver to remove all the screws on the back of your TI-84.
STEP THREE: Carefully (it doesn't require coddling) remove the back face of the calculator
STEP FOUR: Look at the ON SWITCH key to see if it's off its seat, or if it's dirty, or if it's chipped, or if it just aint lookin' right.
STEP FIVE: Do what seems logical (ie, put it back on its seat, find chipped piece, remove dust & crud, etc.)
Well, if the soft key isn't the problem then maybe you've got an issue with the wiring. The TI-84 probably wouldn't be worth paying to have repaired unless you've got some amazing programs which you encoded. So, if push comes to shove you can send that ****** to me (Chicago) and I'll see what I can do.
Of course...call Texas Instruments because their customer service is pretty good despite their lack of knowledge.

If you cannot see anything on the screen, you may need to
adjust the graphing TI 84 calculator contrast :
1. To darken the screen, press and release 2nd
key, and then press and hold up-arrow key until the display is sufficiently dark.
2. To lighten the
screen, press and release 2nd key, and then press and hold Down-arrow key until the display is sufficiently light.
