While watching the tv the picture froze then went blank. I shut it down the tried turning it on after a while, but I get a hum and the lamp light blinks for a minute then stops. A bit later shuts down and the hum goes away. And the standby light comes back on.

TV makes humming noise, lamp light is blinking, does not turn on

Your color wheel needs to be changed. Mine just did the same thing. I changed mine, and the buzzing sound went away, however now my picture washes out with light or yellow colors. The darks look green and purple also.

LAMP

Replace the lamp. In rare cases, the lamp power supply or lamp ballast may also need replacing. But, replace the lamp first, and use an original Sony lamp not a cheap aftermarket replacement. If this helps, please be sure to rate the fix! Thanks!

Won't turn on.. Operation indicator is red, Lamp indicator is flashing red??

According to the E44W48LCD service manual, the temperature indicator red light states the projection TV shut down due to overheating. Red (flashing) states the projection TV shut down, check the cooling fan.
