The probable reason it is happening is the delay in your sky box decoding the signal and the surround sound decoding the audio. Have you tried taking the sound from the tv output and using that as the input for the surround sound and not taking it driectly from the sky box, which i am assuming your doing. If you turn off the LG and listen to the sound through the tv is it in sync, if its a random happening then it is the signal quality of the sky receiver thats at fault

I have picture but no sound. We just had our surround sound system go out and are trying to run our tv on it's own internal speaker system. How do you hook it to our direct tv hd box

Hi.

You need to use audio cables. Connect two red and white audio cables from the output on the HD box to the relative input at the back of TV (nr.4 in picture below). The best way to connect the HD box is by using component cables, that are the red-green and blue trio of cables, plus a white and red audio cables.

Here what you need:

Three plus two:
Component Video Cable
Audio Red / White Cable

or single set of five:
Cables Unlimited - Video / audio cable

Once you have the five cables, connect them to the output at the back of the Direct TV box, and then connect the other end of the cable to either group of connectors 6, or to one of the columns in connector 7. Do connection with box and TV power off. After re-applying power use the source-input selector on remote to select the source from Direct TV box.

Problem with optical input of lght 33s surround

If the slot in the LG system is an input then it won't necessarily show a red light. The connectors are usually very positive though, so check that the TOSlink connector is the right way around, and that there is nothing in the socket which is stopping it from engaging.

How to get surround sound?

Hi, I would recommend using an optical cable from your Sky box to your surround system. The should look like this:

I have a brand new LG 50 plasma and a Bravia Sony surround sound system as well as a Cox Cable HD DVR box. I currently have it connected as such: HDMI from Bravia Sony System direct into TV HDMI from Cable...

you may have to set the input value on the bravia for optical on the input from the cable box. sometimes there is more than one way for a particular input to receive an audio signal, you may have rca(red and white), a black or orange rca type for digital, and then the optical. i would suspect you have to tell the bravia how the sound is inputed into the bravia. also , just a thought.... on the cable box there should be a volume control on the front of the box........ make sure the cable box volume is ALL the way up (it is the preamp volume).

5.1 sound from Sky hd through LG TV

link your optical cable from your HD box to your surround sound.
Then if you go into your HD services menu, press 4 then go to sound make sure its set to Dobly D
That should sort your problem out

Am i getting hdtv with just cable feed?

Depending on your cable provider, some of the HD channels may be present. If so, these are ususally located in the upper channel numbers. It sounds like you are receiving some of the HD lineup. A cable box will probably allow you to view more HD channels including the premium HD channels if you subscribe to them. You should not be noticing a delay with the HD channels only. If this is what you are experiencing without a cable box, then it would be an issue with the HD tuner built into your TV set. LG customer service can let you know if there are any software updates available for yourmodel that can resolve this. Additionally, if you are getting your sound from an Home Theater system then you will notice an echo if using the TV's built in speakers at the same time. This is sometimes mistaken as an audio delay. If you are using a home theater system, be sure to disable the speakers that are built into your system.

Jumping Picture

Does the Sony surround upscale the signal from normal RCA to Component video? If so I have found that sometimes there can be signal sync issue. Meaning the signal that the component video convertor (inside the surround sound unit) sometimes struggles to give a clean component video signal. The TV then struggles to filter the signal correctly resulting in a jumping picture. Try plugging the DVD video only (yellow RCA lead) straight into the plasma and see what happens. You can also try playing with the signal frequency of the plasma, from 50 - 60hz. This will found in the menu of the plasma. Hope this helps. ST
