Set the drill to reverse. Hold the chuck, press the trigger and open the drills chuck to it wide open position. Now,, take the correct size allen wrench and insert it into the back of the chuck to remove the screw. Turn the screw clockwise to remove it. Notice I said clockwise, just the opposite of what you might think. Hold the chuck with your hand or a pair of large vise grips and press the trigger to unscrew the chuck from the drill. Rotate it counterclockwise to remove it from the drill. Reverse the procedure to install the new chuck.
The lefy hand screw inside the chuck is a torx 20. Remove that then the chuck will thread of right hand. Whats really easy is if you have an allen socket. You can tighten the chuck on the allen part and the impact it off. Sometimes you can squeeze the chuck in a vise and pull the trigger and hold the body of the tool still and the chuck will thread off. That works well if the chuck isn't working.
Hello the camp! Yup, removing the TORX screw, LHthread, as stated. My trick is the wrench I forgot to send with old radial arm saw. It is tempered flat sheet metal, approx 1/2", which fits flats on the motor shaft, making chuck removal a snap. I used a hd rubber strap wrench [a la oil filter wrench. hth

It is not the chuck that is stuck, it is probably the armature. Probably a problem with the brushes. Since it is so easy I would try first unscrewing the caps and pulling the brushes out to see if things spin then. If the brush will not come out then it is probably jambed and you would have to take the drill apart. If you take the brushes out and still have a problem, at least one reasonable but simply checked problem is eliminated.

Put the screw back in the chuck, tighten it up then back it out 1 turn. Take a punch, put it in the chuck and give it a quick hit with a hammer. That should do the trick.

Use a pipe wrench on it to give yourself a little more leverage. It is simply jammed all the way open and it will release when you apply enough force.
SOURCE: How to remove a chuck from a DeWalt hand drill
Open chuck all the way (like for a large drill bit). There should be a set screw at the bottom (where you would put a drill bit). Don't turn too hard - it may be a left handed screw (I don't remember if it is a lefty for sure but try gently each way then with a bit more force each way until it moves).
Good luck.
