On my Sony DVD player I get sound but no picture

Describe your "hook-up" hardware. Make sure you are using "out" socket or HDMI plug-in socket at back of DVD player.

Your av cable may be damaged

Have you been using your DVD player with its video out on your TV for a long time? Did you often switch off your TV while the DVD was still connected? I had a similar problem and had to eventually take the DVD to Sony and they checked and said the mother board needs to be replaced. Thank fully mine was within guaranty so it was repaired for free :) So maybe you might want to take your DVD to the service centre. Best of luck

clean the vcr heads they are dirty

just check up your rca chord maybe loose connection or defective rca chord. in audio only

Turn off progressive scan mode of dvd player to get its picture in composite video mode.

If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.

Never realised you needed Audio Cables w/ the HDMI

The DVD player may have multiple output formats that can be displayed. Sounds like you have the composite output selected when you have the component output selected on the DVD player. Check the menu options on the DVD player and confirm they match the way you have the player connected
