I purchased on old acer aspire. it had a windows 98 upgrade. There were windows 95 and windows 98 files and 98se files, but half the programs were missing or the uninstall file was gone or corrupt. I did a reformat of the c drive and now I cannot get the system to boot from the cd. Help. I own a clean install windows 98se version. I have used it before. I need help.

You probably need to tell the BIOS to boot from the CD.
I'm not certain about your model, but you can try pressing delete button as it's doing initial start up, to enter bios. It may even display on screen what to press for bios. Then look for boot sequence options, and have the cd be the the first boot device.
If this works, you may see a message saying "press any button to boot from cd" if you don't do this , it will still fail to boot on cd.
If it works out for you, you should change this option back after completeing the install.

Software windows 98se

It would be helpful if we knew the Make, Model of Laptop. If the Laptop is that old the hardware specs may not support a software upgrade to say Win XP or above. Windows 98se drivers may be a bit difficult to find. The software has been un-supported for many years, soon XP will be on that list. But it's possible with a search of the Make, Model of Computer and the OS.
