My tv works good. Will a firmware update be worth it or can it cause more problems than it is worth.

Usually firmware updates are made to resolve small issues, or to update comparability with new data formats. If anything, this might resolve some problems you'll have with your TV down the road if you don't update it now. So there should be no problem with a firmware update.

The usual advice is that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Some sets have had problems with banding in the picture or the screen going black at odd times; the firmware was probably intended to fix those. If that is the case, changing the firmware on a set that works well may actually cause a problem.

When I plug it in and turn it on it blinks green to turn off red. What is the problem.

Today's Tv's has a slot for an sd card if yours has one. Then you need to check with your Models firmware 'It might need to get updated. We have Panasonic and it was doing the exact thing we updated the firmware. And it resolve the issue at hand. Good luck.

I just bought a sony bravia led kdl46nx800 tv. love the picture, but the thing makes a hoorible crackling noise after the set warms up for about 15minutes. the noise persists intermittantly long after set...

This problems are not tv firmware.Firmware is for basic updating software, never cures hardware problems. This problems is the tv Tuner signal board itself, exchange it to another tv or ask for warrenty repair, just make sure they change the whole tv Tuner signal board. This problems could be anythings in tv Tuner signal board circuitries causing this problems.

Intergrated freeview not working

It's a corrupted firmware, dude. As you may have "automatic firmware update" activated, your tv auto-updated itself at night and, when you tried to turn on next day, you realised the screen is blank and the menu is inaccessible. The only thing you could do now is go to a Toshiba technician and ask for a firmware update. It will solve your problem, as far as it solved mine too. If you don't have guarantee, they'll probably charge you for the update... but don't worry: it mustn't be very expensive.

Good luck.

Have you updated your unit's software from the Garmin site? There was a new satellite launched in 2008 which has been causing problems, and the new update fixes this.

Won't respond to volume or channel changes red light blinks 20x's when turned off.

It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.

I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.

Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.

This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.

Broken tv

I had problems with channels on my Olevia LCD TV. My problem was solved by updating to the latest firmware.

Make sure the USB flash drive is formatted with the right file system, or the set will not see the updated firmware.

Good luck!
