The specific definition of your Sony TRV608 error code E:61:00 is "Difficult to adjust focus. Inspect the lens block focus reset sensor."
This could mean you have foreign material inside your camera, or a solid-state failure of some kind. Both of these will require servicing at an authorized sony repair center.
That said, another common cause of your E:61:00 error code is moisture inside your video camera. This causes condensation inside the lens and prevents the auto-focus from working, which generates the error.
Therefore I recommend removing the battery, opening the tape transport and placing the unit where it can gently dry out, such as close to a warm air vent. Give it a day in this position to ensure you've dried it out as much as possible before having it serviced.
I hope that helps.

I tried what you suggested and still have E:61 error. Would it be worth directing a blow drier on low into the cassete chamber to try and dry it out? If I have to send it out is it worth the cost of having it repaired vs getting a new camera which will be expensive. I purchased this Sony TRRV608 in April, 2003.
Please advise asap.
Thank you,
