When I turn the dial the indicator lights come on for about 15 seconds but when I push the Start button nothing happens. Does not seem to matter what setting is used. Machine had a similar problem for a while. If I moved the cycle selector back and forth it would start working. Now nothing. I tried to put it in diagnostic mode (hold start button and rotate selector 180 degrees) but diagnostic mode does not appear to work either.

the belt might have come off of the tub take it back apart and look underneath and see if the drive belt is loose or on the floor when the tub came loose it probably slipped the belt off before stopping.

The help that you gave me was completely wrong. The support ring was okay. I solved my problem by buying a new timer and control knobs. The teflong 'gears' were worn out so the knobs rotated freely.

We have a GE WJRR4170 washer, with the same problem. At first I
thought I might have to unscrew the entire control panel just to
replace the knob. However, replacing the knob turns out to be easy.
Right behind the knob, holding it in place, is a nylon/plastic retainer
clip. If you pull out the knob (into the "start" position), you will get easier access to the retainer clip. You can
use a flathead screwdriver to push the clip out. The knob then will
slide easily off the metal stem. A GE replacement knob costs $9 or
$10, depending on the source.
Shame on GE, but the knob is designed terribly. The part of it that
engages the dial has eight, flimsy plastic teeth. At any time, four of
these are supposed to engage four little slots in the dial. However,
the way the knob is designed, there will be a lot of wear and tear on
these plastic teeth, so they'll wear out on every single machine.

Hi, I had the exact same problem. If you take out three phillips head screws at the bottom of the front bottom panel. Pull the panel down and off. Behind on the right is a white plastic circle. If you turn it counter clockwise it will unscrew and you can pull out and remove all sorts of debris from it. Be careful if the washer is full you get wet as it will drain through the opening. Since then I/ve had no problem and I found about a dollars worth of change in the filter for my trouble.
