It sounds like you simply need a new battery. Here is a site that sells replacement batteries for the Amazon Kindle 1:
Amazon Kindle 1 Battery
The prices are some of the best around and all batteries carry a 1 year replacement warranty. I hope this helps!

Our new kindle paper white will not connect to our wifi

The Kindle Paperwhite automatically scans for Wi-Fi networks that are in range of your device. If one networks are found, the device will connect automatically. If a password is required, a screen appears asking you to input that information. Generally, the process is quick and easy.
Occasionally, however, you may need to connect to the Wi-Fi network manually. Follow these steps:
  1. Tap Menu?Settings.
  2. If the network to which you want to connect appears in the list, tap that network. You're finished!
  3. If the network to which you want to connect doesn't appear in the list:
    1. Tap Other.A dialog box named Enter Wi-Fi Network appears, along with the on-screen keyboard.
    2. Using the onscreen keyboard, enter the network name and, if applicable, the password.
    3. Tap the Advanced button.
    4. Work through the series of screens, entering information related to the network, including connection type, IP address, and security type.
Advance through the screens by using the up and down arrows.
If necessary, contact the person who set up the network for assistance with filling in this information.
    5. When all the necessary information has been entered, tap the Connect button to join the network.
If your Kindle Paperwhite is connected to your home network but can't connect to Amazon, you may need to reestablish the connection. Tap Menu?Settings?Wi-Fi Networks, and then tap the network that has a check mark to its left. When the Forget Network? dialog box appears, tap Forget. You'll have to reselect the network and enter the password (if one is required).
If you're having trouble connecting to your home network, unplug the Wi-Fi router, wait at least 60 seconds, and then plug it in and wait for the network to restart.
If this does not work....follow this link and do a factory reset.

My kindle cant connect to internet

Go to the Settings Menu, Select the Wireless & VPN option and see if you are in Airplane mode, if you are turn that off. Then select Wi-Fi. See if Wi-Fi is turned on. If it's not turn it on. There should be a list of available Wi-Fi routers. If one is not selected select one that is open or that you have the password to. If none are open or they are locked and you don't have a password, you'll need to get a password for one, or install your own Wi-Fi router.

How do I convert a wireless wi fi kindle to my pc. I do not have access to wi fi.

Not sure what you are asking. If you have internet service, you could purchase and install a cheap wi-fi router after the modem. This will provide you with local wi-fi service, which you can use with your Kindle. Just follow the instructions for the router to properly set up and secure.

How do I connect to the kindle store my kindle will not connect so I may download kindle books?

To connect to the Kindle Store your device must have either a wi-fi connection to the Internet or a 3G Whispersynch connection via a telecom. Some Kindles come with the 3G and some don't. The ones that don't require a Wi-Fi connection.

So, if you have Wi-Fi access the turn off Airplane mode in Settings and enter the Wi-Fi password to your router. If you are using public Wi-Fi such as at McDonalds you might have to
use the experimental browser in setting to be able to click the *accept terms* button or you will not have access even if connected.

My kindle wi-fi keeps kicking out. I have G3 and never had to put in a specific wi-fi source. Now it continually asks me to connect, and won't even accept a proper on our home wi-fi router.

Your kindle has a sim card installed for 3G (lifetime licence paid by amazon and paid for on purchase price on the unit) but that is not related to the wi-fi function on your kindle. Your wi-fi service needs to be logged in to with the same password as you use to log any computer on to your router when at home or whatever wi-fi password is required when elsewhere (e.g a bus, train or restaurant).

How to tune in kindle to wi fi?

From the Home screen, press the Menu button.
Select Settings, and then select view next to Wi-Fi Settings.
In the list of detected networks, choose a network to connect to it.
If your Wi-Fi network and router support WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), your Kindle will detect it.
If you don't see your network in the list, you need to add the network manually.
If the network is protected by a password or WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), enter the password and then select Submit. If you don't know the Wi-Fi network password, contact the person who set up the Wi-Fi network. After you connect to a Wi-Fi network, your Kindle automatically connects to it again whenever that network is in range. If more than one network is in range, your Kindle automatically connects to the last network used.

I do not have wireless at home. Received the 3g version of kindle for christmas. It worked all this time. Today, it will not connect. Sees all sorts of wireless connections which are all password...

You are mixing up two things: 3G and Wi-Fi.

3G is a mobile phone data service, supported by selected Kindle devices. Your Kindle 3 3G has a SIM card built inside, just like the fingernail-size chips you put into a mobile phone. Amazon set up contracts with phone service providers in many countries so you can use it to download books to your Kindle at no extra costs for you other than the higher price of Kindle 3 3G compared to the non-3G version. You do not need any extra hardware for this to work, and it will work in most places of the world. This is the guarantee you were promised.

Wi-Fi is a wireless communication standard all Kindle devices support. While most hotels, airports and some restaurants provide free Wi-Fi access for guests, you need your own WLAN router at your home, and pay for your own broadband internet service. The "all sorts of wireless connections which are all password protected" belong to your neighbors and they are password protected so that nobody can take a free ride on the service they pay for.

You can tell the connection status of your Kindle from symbols in in the status bar, at the top right of the screen:
  • If it shows "OFF", wireless connectivity is deactivated and you cannot access the internet from your Kindle, or download books.
  • If it shows "Wi-Fi", the Kindle is connected to a Wi-Fi network. The five bars right of the symbol represent the connection's signal strength, the more bars are black, the better.
  • If it shows "3G", you are connected via 3G mobile data service. The bars right of this symbol refer to mobile phone service signal strength, much like a mobile phone would show you.
If you do not have internet connection with wireless LAN at home, you need to set up your Kindle to use the 3G service. This is the default setting when the device is delivered to you, and I believe it worked until you or somebody else inadvertently changed the configuration.
Follow this step-by-step procedure:
  1. Switch on your Kindle.
  2. Press the "Home" button.
  3. Check the status bar. Does it show the "3G" symbol? If yes, how about signal strength? If you are somehow blocked from mobile phone antennas in your area, signal strength will be low and the Kindle will not have internet access. Move around and see if it becomes better.
  4. Does it show the "OFF" symbol? If yes, press the "Menu" button. A menu of commands should open. Use the four-way button just below "Menu" to underline the top-most option "Turn Wireless On" and press the center of the four-way. The menu list will close, and after a moment Kindle will try to connect to the internet.
  5. Does it show the "Wi-Fi" symbol? If yes, I assume you accidentally connected to a neighbor's Wi-Fi network and its firewall protected, or is too far away to use it. In this case, press the "Menu" button to open the command menu. Use the four-way button just below "Menu" to underline "Settings", second option from the bottom, and press the center of of the four-way. The settings menu will open. Use the four-way button to navigate down to "Wi-Fi Settings" (the text "view" must be underlined) and press the center of the four-way. The list of Wi-Fi networks open. Navigate down using the four-way to any network with the text "forget" on it and press the center of the four-way.
Please let me know if you encounter problems in following these instructions, and I'll try to assist you further.
