My IBM Wheelwriter is making beeping/chirping noises. The storage light is not on and I changed the batteries. Problem occurred after changing out old ribbon...now my typewriter sounds like it swallowed Tweedy Bird.

I have an instruction manual for IBM Wheelwriter 1000. The troubleshooting page in my manual for the machine coming on and having no lights is to make sure the cord is securely plugged into the typewriter and the wall or power strip and to switch the machine off and back on. Mine has a power saving mode where the lights go off after a while to enter power saving mode. I only need to touch a key to turn it back on.
Hope this helps - Cindy
Take out one of the batteries from the battery holder and turn it on. The batteries are used for the memory of the machine. The machine will beep 3 times indicating the storage is cleared
