How to repair back wheel brakes? the foot break not the handle break? many many thanks...

the emergency brake is controlled by a ratchet action near the handle or foot pedal(hand release under dash) There will be a star wheel for adjustment in the backing plate (slot) or in the hole in the front of the drum

In the middle of the wheels see the wheels are 8 right and each side has 2 wheel the break is in the middle of each wheel just press it down so that the breakcan be used..

There are four possibilities. From worst to easiest to fix: (don't worry, a link provided below has diagrams of all the parts in exploded view with part names)

1. There are two springs holding the brake shoes firmly against pivot post and brake lever cam, the ends of these can wear through and break. These provide most of the spring tension felt in a cable operated expanding shoe brake. Requires wheel removal and simple removal of brake hub to access.

2. The cam that expands the shoes (when rear lever is actuated) runs through a waterproofing rubber grommet. This grommet can often tear and bind up, reducing the return spring's effectiveness.

3. There is a spring behind the brake's foot pedal frame mount and the plate that pulls the front of the cable end. This maybe either dislodged or the angled ends broken off.

There is a compression spring at rear wheel end of cable, between cable stop and lever arm. This can be removed, stretched and replaced or packed with spacers to provide additional spring.

Keep on bleeding until all air bubbles goes out but never-never let your brake fluid reservoir empty, as you bleed the brake, fill the reservoir immediatel to full level. Do you know how to bleed properly? Make sure the engine and key is is off position. Pump the foot brake 6 or 7 times until it becomes hard, keep pedal down, open brake nipple relase fluid as soon it stop spurting, close tight and repeat process until all air bubbles are out from system, fill brake fluid reservoir. As the bike is on centre stand,hand turn the back wheel and press foot brake it should stop it from turning which means it is now working properly. Good enough advise?

If it is not automatically releasing the park brake wnen car is started and put into gear there may be a more serious problem , There are also break release handles in the area .

Hi maristel5679. I had the same problem. It's quite easy to fix yourself. There should be a small philips type screw holding the whole assembly onto the frame. Undo this and you will see the inner workings. You just have to realign the ratchet inside. Do this by taking off the whole thing. Be careful when you place it back on the frame as it could slip out of line again because of the tension in the brake line. Undo the tension by slackening the brake screw. replace the hand-brake, tighten the philips screw, then remember to tighten the brake back up. Hope I explained this clearly!! Good luck.

I've had a similar problem is so matter what i do the lights would stay on dim. My solution to my problem was that I had a bad/loose ground.

To your problem with the high mount break mount staying on is that you have a loose ground or a tear in the wire.

but since your truck isn't really that old I would first try contacting the Ford dealership asking them if there was a certain recall on this problem of somesort

The front break rotors are causing this..
You need to have the break rotors turned - or replaced if they cannot be turned..

ALWAYS engage Parking Brake BEFORE putting vehicle into "Park". Reverse the process when you want to get out of "Park" (hold down brake pedal, put car into desired gear, THEN disengage Parking Brake). Good luck!

If you loosen the wire that is connected to the gripping machanism first , you will have long enough wire to put it throu the brake grip first then tighten it back at the wheel gripping area.
