When the fan or A/C control is turn on a hum can be heard but nothing happens. I went up and the fan initially wouldn't turn. I got it to spin, but still only a hum when the switch is turned on. Seems like the motor is shot. What are my options?

With the unit off put a drop of 3 and 1 oil on the fan shaft where it goes in to the motor and spin the blade by hand a few times to work the oil in the motor. If the shaft is dirty in the area clean it first with alcohl on a rag to get the grime off it then oil the shaft.

Thanks, but I already tried that and I still only get a hum. The fan doesn't turn.

    The motor is shot then.

Outside unit will only run for a short amount of time with A/C before the fan stops turning and starts humming, squealing/screeching and the top of the outside unit gets hot.

The bearings are bad in the motor and after the fan runs enough it eventually gets hot, making the bearing screech and the fan locks up. Need to replace motor again. See if it has a warranty. The reason it gets hot is because the fan is what removes the heat from the coil and if the fan isn't running there is nothing to cool it off so to speak.

The most common cause of this is something stuck between the drum and the tank. Rotate it by hand and see if you can locate the source of the sound.

Replace the capacitor inside the control panel on the outside unit. The top of the capacitor may be puffed up.
The fan motor may also be going bad. Change the capacitor first. It will have to be changed anyway if the motor is bad.

My Acer Aspire 6530-5753 laptop stopped charging the battery even though the power supply light was on--it's an aftermarket charger from Radio Shjack. The battery ran dead and it wouldn't run on...

This is not the motherboard. The batteries in laptops have electronic sensors in them. When they reach the end of life, they stop the computer from turning on. Once that happens it wont power on with the battery in or out. Batteries are not that expensive. Only about 25 dollars.

Motor can be heard going but the blade wont spin!!

There is usually a pin in the shaft of the motor, that corrosponds with a slot in the fan blades, it sounds to me like either (a) the pin somehow came out, or (b) the slot in the blades is rounded. Hope this helps

Recentley my tv just turned off. I heard a buzzing sound which happened the 1st time my bulb went out. So I ordered a new one. When the new one was put in it worked for 5 minutes then turned off and...

This could be a couple of things. Look at the cooling fan and be sure that it can spin freely. If it is stuck, the buzzing could be the motor trying to spin the fan. Other than that, the ballast could be failing as well. This is the part that "fires" the lamp. Examine the fan first and let mw know what happens.

Kenmore 23012, spin cycle problem

This sounds like a broken coupler gear. I'm having the same problem with my Kenmore-80 Series. The machine fill up, pump out, but when I try to spin I get nothing and the I can hear the motor humming/grinding. I've heard the coupler gear is not expensive $35 or so and the repair procedure is not difficult, but I can't locate how to fix it. If you find any additional information, please send my way. I don't want to pay $150 or so to have it serviced.

Ariston LBE12X will not fill

depends which program you started with if you started with drain or spin then the humming noise you heard is the pump energised but jammed. remove the filter again and check nothing stuck in the pump impellor - bits of bra wire are the favourites if you started with a wash or rinse program, the humming noise is the inlet valve energised but no water coming thro. check water is turned on and hoses not kinked
