Amana refrig have 2 main problems . 1 is the defrost bimetal ( 1" cylinder at the top right on the freezer coils with 2 wires ) and the other is a refrigerant leak where the copper tubing joins the aluminum tubing at the freezer coils ( evaporator coils ) . If your freezer fan is not working and you have frost on the freezer coils then replace the bimetal as this also controls the defrost heater ( defrost thermostat ) . If you have no frost on the coils ( for both checks , you will have to remove the inside rear freezer panel , maybe 12 screws ) , then a refrigerant leak has happened and the best solution would be to replace the refrig .
Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the
back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL)
or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR
PROBLEM).
I called Amana and found the "sealed systems" are still under warranty. It cost me $85 for a service call and the fridge is working. The problem was a plugged "capillary line."
if the fan is not running then most likely the defrost stat has failed but you should also check the fan for continuity if you have continuity the fan should be ok you can find a defrost stat on parts advantage.com
The fan in the freezer blows its air through the COILS in the freezer. If the coils are plugged with frost, there will be no breeze coming into the fresh food compartment. One other thing i have seen on Amana and Sears, is that the fan slips on the motor shaft. Make sure the fan blade is tight on the shaft.
sounds like you have a restriction in your filter drier. or you could be low on freon. both sealed system issues. you need an appliance tech to check your cooling system
couple things to check BEFORE calling the technician.. Check to make sure the coils under it are clean, 2nd make sure the coil cooling fan is working.. you can do this by getting behind the machine and check to see if the fan there is blowing..
IT could also be the defrost timer or the defrost heater.. these work in the back ground so you will never know unless you have ice buid up and such..
Hope this helps
sound like you said a sealed system problem if compressor is running check the black coil under ref by the fan and see if it is warm if not you have lost freon just trash it then if it is see if fan in freezer is running if so pull back cover in freezer and see if coil starts to freeze if you have a ice block on coil then it is a defrost problem good luck
