Maker: Mitsubishi LCD High Definition Television
Model: WD - 62531
Purchase Date: March 2007 (Yep! I'm 4 months out of warranty!!)
Here's my story:
Lamp went bad 1 month after warranty expired, purchased new lamp (name brand, lamp only - did not replace housing unit) and this worked fine for approx 2 months.
Recently we began having issues where the TV would act as though it was trying to power up (fan comes on), audio was on but the screen would not appear. After approx 10 seconds the set would power down and the red lamp light will come on. We've pulled out the lamp housing unit and put it back in just in case there was something up with that (lamp is still good), reset the TV, unplugged the tv, given it a few whacks :o), but the problem has now become rather prominent and doesn't want to come on without a fight.
We've spoken with Mitsubishi tech support and tried all their fabulous suggestions..... Turn off the TV for 15 minutes...wow, I never would have considered that!!!
Ya, so my TV still has issues. I live in the sticks so I'm really excited about calling a service tech 'cause that's gonna cost me.
Any help out there???
Thanks!!!

2 years and three months but, what counts are the hours that it was on. Your software only really effects the way the TV interacts with HDMI inputs and really won't effect much else. The manufactures only expect 4-5000 hours on the lamp. Some go less some go more. You need to replace that lamp most likely.

SEDI-POSSIBLY YOUR SET HAS A LOW 5 VOLT POWER SUPPLY.TEST VIA VOLTMETER ON PLUG J-9 WHICH IS ON LITE ENGINE .YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE BACK OF SET TO MAKE THE TEST.IF 5 VOLT IS LOW BEST TO CALL A MITSUBUSHI TECH.JOE TV
SOURCE: WD-52525 Lamp failed 2x in 4 months..is it the Lamp?
Having the same problem with the dim picture on my WD-52525. Had the lamp replaced and still had a dim picture. My authorized dealer has been in contact with Mitsubishi Tech Support and they are thinking it's the optical engine (light engine).
If you think the replacement lamps are expensive, wait till you see the price of the optical engine. My dealer told me they run around $750.00! If this is the problem, I'm hoping they will cover it under warranty as the TV is less than 2 years old.
SOURCE: TV suddenly shuts off and lamp light comes on, but lamp is OK
did you reset the lamp timer? just a guess
SOURCE: I have a Mitsubishi WD-62725 that I purchased in
Likely one of two things bad here. -- a bad color wheel in the light engine is not allowing the lamp to fire, or bad capacitors on the power supply is preventing the start up process from being completed. I have seen both, but more power supply issues. The PS is up front, behind the DM module and formatter module in the "box".
Techs HATE these sets!! The main reason is that ALL of the "stuff" is inside a bunch of "boxes" that shield things, but at the SAME time--they make repair a "#itch and ALSO overheat EVERYTHING!! Hopefully--you can find one willing to take a look at your set, if not under a service plan.

I recently replace the lamp on our Mitsubishi WD 62531 and the tv lamp light is now coming on again but the lamp looks fine. The place I bought the lamp from says it is probably the ballast....What is that and where do I find it and how do I replace it? Thanks! (Also have no repair people within a couple of hundred miles from here!) jnh
i bought a new lamp
We have the same problem after replacing the lamp (but not the housing). I know the lamp works because we can turn the TV on eventually, but it's a fight.
