The main board the the 42A is no longer available. We have two of them here we're saving for parts and both need the main board. This is a common problem where the power regulator on the main board blows and something else on the same line shorts (actually I think multiple components short). There may also be one or two vented capacitors in the same circuit. There is nothing that can be done to repair the board and it's no longer available. Unless you can find a working board on eBay or some other place I'm afraid you're out of luck.
Hi mojo_686,
If you can't find the exact part for your Daytek TV in a local store or repair center, I recommend to contact the manufacturer directly. If system is still in warranty they will set up a free service and repair for your unit. Please click the link below for the complete contact information of Daytek.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.
Yes Daytek has shut down. This company was, at one time, the #2 seller of monitors in Canada. Because of so much junk being imported and called "electronics" now, some decent companies like Daytek can no longer compete.
The problem you are having is a common problem with this model. There is a short in the power circuit on the main board. It's not the regulators, although I believe the large 5 pin switching regulator is bad, but if you remove it the short is still there. I have personally tried several times to track this short down but have failed miserably so far. The boards are no longer available. Unfortunately, I believe your TV is now a boat anchor. The only option I can see is a very complex and time consuming option: Look around for a main board from another manufacturer that can run the same LCD panel: LG Phillips LC420W02. You'll have to modify the case and likely the connectors from the power board so they will plug into the replacement board correctly with the correct voltages in the correct pin positions, the Backlight On signal connected properly, and the control/IR and audio connectors wired properly. You may be able to get the TV going again. Make sure you get a board with the tuners on it if you need them. Personally, I'd give a mod like this about a 50:50 chance of working if done by someone who is good at electronics.
I was going to add this as a solution, but ONCE AGAIN fixya.com is not working properly. When I try to post the solution it tells me to "please enter a valid product" even though I have already tried "daytek tv, daytek lcd tv, daytek dm-42a".
I've had so many problems with fixya over the last couple of years (since they made the last major overhaul of their site) that I've had it now. This is the last time I will bother helping anyone here. I'm no longer typing in a long solution or bit of information to help people only to find out that I can't post it, or the site loses it, or the posting doesn't work.
What a waste of time, especially considering I have a high ranking and that I always help for free.
Sorry guys, no more help from me.
