Hi My HP deskjet 930c is printing only in black and will not print colour. I have checked that the colour box is ticked in set up and that it is not set to grayscale. I have also checked to see if it will colour from various programmes, but it will not. When I do a test print at the printer itself, it is printing colour fine. Hoping you can help solve the problem. With thanks Geoff

Frankly, it sounds that you've taken the necessary steps to ensure color printing.  Just for giggles, try reinstalling the software drivers.  Here is the link to the driver for your machine.  You'll need to select the operating system (Windows 2000, XP... etc) to get the driver you need.

Is there any way to disable the color cartridge in my HP 930c? I want to print only in black.

Under your printer preferences there is a way to print gray scale. SO even if your image is in color, it will print black and white. Every printer interface is different, but when you go to print, there's usually a properties or setting button that will bring you to another page from the initial print menu. here is where you would choose gray scale.

If you try for black with only a color cartridge, it'll come out a dark green or blue color. Or on some cases, it will tell you it's out of black and you can't print. Most HP printers need at both cartridges in the printer for it to print.

Only printing in black after inserting new colour cartridge

If color is coming out gray then you may have grayscale selected in your print settings. If color is just missing, check to see if the tape on the back and bottom of the cartridge has been compelety removed. If that is not it then run the head cleaning. If that doesn't correct it, then you just got a bad cartridge.

HP 930C will not print in color

Have you made sure that the plastic strip covering the cartridge is removed? Also, are both of the cartridges installed? Mine won't print if both aren't installed. Next, you might want to check that (in printer settings) your printer isn't configured to print pure black/greyscale. Otherwise, check the HP Site, they have walkthrough guides on how to print tests directly from your printer. Hope this helps. BurntLime

HP printer using color for printing black text

I have solved this issue on other printers by going to the Control Panel, clicking on Printers and Faxes and right click on the printer icon and select Printing Preferences. Most will have the option in the basic or advanced view to select black ink only, this may also be an option in the Paper/Quality tab.
