RCA cable. It's called RCA when carrying Line Level audio; Coaxial when carrying digital data.

Does the sub work when you run speaker setup? It's in the manual.

No their is no sound when I do a test sound. All the other 5 speakers are working, settings are setup to show a subwoofer is connected. Thanks

How do we know the unnamed sub is CAPABLE of making sounds and connected properly? Was it working before and spontaneously failed or is this new equipment? It matters.

Prove its amp will respond to an input by running an RCA feed to it from , say, one of the MD/Tape, Video 1 or Video 2 Outputs. be advised these outputs are NOT volume-controlled so it will be loud if it works. If your sub has volume control, turn it down. Select FM, tune a station and be ready to de-select it. If it still doesn't work, the sub is the patient, not the receiver.

How can i connect my laptop to a db790 amplifier?

All you need is a 3.5mm Stereo Mini jack to two RCA jacks. Connect this to the line or speaker out of the laptop into anything but the phono input on your sony. The phono input will be over driven and sound bad and possibly damage something in the system. Try using any other unused device input on the receiver.

Hi Kevin, This may not be a solution but you`ve most likely burnt out the amplifiers, I have the same model and its just burnt out the amplifiers for the second time. I was`nt cranking the volume and it was running my Bose AM 5`s which are very good speakers. Its expensive to repair and not many tech heads will take on anything "Sony". If you do have any luck fixing it please get in touch. *[email protected]* Regards, Neil.

5.1 Surround sound not working

Maybe the surround processor is having a bad day... My kenwood would do similar and a reset was necessary to correct. Have you tried resetting the system? On my Sony STR DE 597 this is accomplished by powering off. Then while holding the 2 channel button down (front face plate) power on. A reset message is displayed. Your model may be similar but check your manual or download the PDF of the manual from Sony's support website. Hope this helps

Speakers pop and rear speakers cut out of surround sound

Hi,
your problem is a bad solder connection of the relay linked to the lautspeaker sockets. I had the same problem and googled for the solution. Since I resoldered the pins everything is fine. That problem is well known and happens to a lot of Sony receivers.

I can send you a link with a detailed how-to-do solution with pictures, however it's written in german language. But you can use some online translators.

Here is the link: http://www.bmw-syndikat.de/bmwsyndikatforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28280&FORUM_ID=20&CAT_ID=9&Forum_Title=Geplaudere&Topic_Title=Problem+Sony+STR-DE445

Sony-DG820 Subwoofer

The powered subwoofer should be connected to the black subwoofer output near the bottom of the receiver in just about the center. A subwoofer uses line level signals and has its own amplifier, Good chance that you wiped out a channel. Put the wiring back the way it was, and IF the channel was not directly connected to the speaker terminals, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE it will still work.
Chances are slim...

No sound from back speakers

Remember the rear speakers are called surround... Did you select surround on the unit? if it says stereo then you will only get fronts, select surround to get the rest.
