The resolution is controlled by the video sources, you do not adjust it at the TV, if you feed it with video sources that is 1080i it will display 1080i.
I hope that will explain how it works.

How do i change from 480p to 1080p on my rca remote

You don't. The TV's resolution can't be changed. Only the signal resolution from the source can be altered.

The TV reports the resolution of the incoming signal before it is scaled. If you have a BD player you can see the effect of changing the resolution setting from 480p, to 720p, to 1080i, to 1080p 60, to 1080p 24. The last three (the 1080 resolutions) shouldn't look too different with a Blu-ray apart from movement because the native picture is 1080p 24 and the TV is simply converting it back to 1080p 24 for display.

Dynex HDTV says not supported when PS3 is connected via HDMI

Have you tried changing the video output settings on the PS3? It may just be on a setting that the TV does not support. For instance, if the poutput setting is 1080P, and the TV only supports up to 1080i, you would get a "not supported" signal. Hook the ps3 to a tv that it works on...turn it on, go to settings- display settings-output settings- select HDMI as the connector type- if it asks for 3D tv size...select the size- now you need to set the resolution...select all resolutions that the TV supports, since it is a dynex...it is likely a 720p TV. So I would start by selecting only 720p, and then hook the system to the Dynex TV and see if it works now. If it works, you can go back in and attempt to select 1080i or 1080p to see if they work... but again, being a Dynex, it is probably only a 720p TV... The PS3 is likely trying to output a 1080i or 1080p signal...which that TV doesn't support.

Trying to use ps3, even after using hdmi cable on input 6 or 7, it says check your device output and i see green lines on my screen?

hi
There maybe some problem with your TVs resolution. ps3 outputs full hd high resolution video(1080p) through its HDMI. May be your TV is not supporting that resolution. Connect ps3's component video out to your TV's component video input and then try. if it ask for any resolution selection. select 720p or 1080i, above that resolution your TV will not support. Your tv is hd ready one, not full hd. ps3 's HDMI out is full hd (1080p).
or try this
Connect your ps3 to any full hd tv and then goto video setup of ps3. change resolution to 1080i (down scaling ). then connect to your TV via HDMI. surly u will get the video.

I want ot change my LG television Model 47LH40 to 1080p using my LG remote

1080p video resolution can only be achieved by a Blu-ray Disc. Satellite TV, broadcast TV, cable TV do not actually send out 1080p resolution. So unless you are using a Blu-ray movie, you will not be viewing 1080p. Your HDTV has a NATIVE screen resolution and the TV will SCALE all incoming video to its native resolution. Most people cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080i. 1080p signal sources are slightly sharper. But if you have a HDTV that is 1080p capable and you give it a 1080p source (Blu-ray Disc) and use a HDMI cable to connect, you will get 1080p, you do not have to change the HDTV as it will automatically display 1080p.

I have hooked up my br to an onkyo home theater through hdmi. i now get an unusable signal on my flat screen. This also happens when I hook it up directly to the tv. What can I do to get this to work

hi,
The Blu-ray player outputs full HD VIDEO (1080p) through HDMI, if your tv is not a full HD one then you can't see the video. Do one thing connect the Blu-ray player to any full HD tv and go to it video setting. Down scale the video to 1080i. All HD ready tvs supports only resolution up to 1080i. only full HD tvs supports 1080p. Down scale the video to 1080i surely you will get video. Also check the version of HDMI cable you have used. It should be 1.2 or above.

Will the Sony STR-DG820 receiver support 3D?

I have this amp and mine does not have the latest firmware (indicated by a green or blue dot near the serial number) and it does not pass through Audio or Video when a 3D Blu-Ray is played in my PS3 although my TV (Sony Bravia XBR-52HX909) does say "3D Video Signal Detected." No audio or video ever plays but the PS3 looks like it's playing.

To change this setting, you must exit the application and change your Video Output Settings from the display settings option in the Settings menu. Make sure the tv is not set on 720p/i and that it is set to 1080i. There has been issues with games that are 1080 downscaling the resolution. this can be confirmed by reading this article. if you provide me with the model of the tv. I can help assist you in ensuring its on 1080p. If you need further assistance please let me know after you try the following above. Thanks, Midwest-tek

I have a sony 32 inch xbr TV (myt first non analog). HOw do you change the resolution from 480i to 1080i. What is the difference between 1080i and 1080p Thanks for your help. Maria

The resolution can only be change on your resolution source (ie cable box, dvd, etc). On your cablebox go to menu/setting->audio/video->output resolutions->and here you can change the setting. The main difference between i and p is how the video is scanned. I is interlaced, meaning you get the odd lines of video, then the even lines, and the picture may flutter but its better for fast action. P is progressive giving all the lines of video at once, better for still images, but slower of some tvs.
