Battery is not charging

Hi! My NC4010 battery is not charging. I got a new battery but it didn't help. When connected to the ac/dc adaptor the indicator light keeps blinking and the battery is not charged. When connected to ac/dc adaptor the notebook works ok, whether the battery is in place or not, so the ac/dc adaptor seems to be ok.

I have the same problem. I have tried 3 batteries & 2 different power supplies to no avail. I can boot up & the charge indicator says that it is charging but the percentage of charge never changes. A couple of times I got it to start charging but it would only charge maybe 10 - 15% and quit . I bought a new battery & it did the same ting. I kept messing with it & it finally charged to 100% but hasn't charged since. Any ideas what so ever as to the problem would be appreciated.

Battery won?t charge and AC adaptor not recognized

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that just turned two years old.

After one year, my dell 6-cell battery started to falter, so Ipurchased a new 9-cell battery. This worked fine until a couple ofmonths ago when I noticed that my 65W adaptor was frayed. I bought anew 65W Dell Inspiron 6000 ac adapter andit worked well for about a week until I noticed that my battery wasn’tcharging at times. If I was patient, or unplugged the adapter andplugged it back in, the battery began charging and all was saved.

This lasted only a short time until my Dell Inspiron 6000 batterywouldn’t charge at all for long periods of time, and sometimes thecomputer wouldn’t turn on, even if plugged into the wall. I thought itmight still be the adaptor, so I borrowed a fully functioning 90W Delladapter from a family member to test the system. This worked better, but still not great.

When I removed the battery and started only fromAC power, the functionality was also intermittent. Usually, if thecomputer actually started, I received the start-up error “The Inspiron 6000 AC AdapterType could not be determined, etc. etc. etc.” After pressing F1, thecomputer booted, but if the battery wasn’t in, the computer didn’tusually last long before shutting off. Unsure if maybe the battery wasthe problem, I put the 6-cell Inspiron 6000 batteryback in, and it too wouldn’t charge, although (together with the 90Wadapter) my computer would at least start more consistently if pluggedin. The error remained however, and sometimes the system stopsrecognizing power and switches to my ever dwindling battery power untilthe adapter is recognized again.

The problem is with the jack on the motherboard inside our Inspiron 6000’s. This is the jack you plug your power plug into on the back of the laptop.

Somehow the jack gets worn and does not make correct contact withthe laptop so the Laptop does not see the power supply as a legit Dellbrand. So the powersupply will not charge the laptop battery and run the laptop at the same time.

DC power jack repair guide. Do-it-yourself instructions.

Modern laptops are all sold with built-in wireless laptop ac adapter. Some power notebooks used by corporate road warriors will have powerfulcellular adapters that connect the laptop to the Internet via the cellphone infrastructure

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with dell pa 12,dell e1505 and Dell Inspiron 6000notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix theproblem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s stillunder warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you. Problem symptoms:

  • Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  • Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wigglethe power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  • The battery will not get charged.
  • When you plug ac adapter for laptop, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED * activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. dell pa 12 and Dell Inspiron 6000 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system laptop board witha magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because ofa bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see acrack between the DC jack connector and the system board.

Why does laptop stop working through adaptor after battery flat

Hi There,

Your battery charger/adapter connects to the DC Power Jack to power your laptop and charge the battery. Since the charger/adapter does 2 things, there are 2 "cells" inside it to do those 2 different things. It's not uncommon for one or the other (but not both) to fail. So, often just purchasing a new charger/adapter solves the problem you're having. It appears that yours is continuing to charge but has stopped "adapting" AC current to DC current to power the laptop directly.

My hitachi camcorder says I need an AC adapter/charger

Hi Riannasmail,
You need a camcorder to charger DC cable,it looks like a battery with a trailing cable that has a DC plug on the end that plugs into the Hitachi battery charger. If you are in the USA you should be able to buy one for about $8 to $12,if you live in UK you will be ripped off at about £24.
I made my own adaptor and charger system for less than £20,If you need more info please contact me.

How long did you originally charge it for? Whatelse is running on your phone to drain it?
take it to a retail store and have them look at it.

Dell Inspiron 1505; Battery does not charge; DC jack is loose..

The loose connection for the AC adapter means the motherboard needs to be replaced or the AC adapter jack on the motherboard needs to be replaced. (With Labor, it is about the same cost to buy a new motherboard as it is to have the old one fixed)

Motherboards are available on EBay for around $100

Lap top problem

Hi

If the AC power light is blinking, try the following steps:

1 Cut off power to the computer by disconnecting the AC adaptor and removing the battery. The error condition will be interrupted, and the AC power light will stop flashing.

2 Put the battery back into the computer. Do not connect the AC adaptor. Try turning the computer on again. If the computer starts normally, the AC adaptor may be
defective and will need to be replaced. If the AC power light starts flashing, remove the battery, and continue with the steps below.

3 Connect the AC adaptor to the computer. Leave the battery out of the computer. Try turning the computer on again. If the computer starts normally, the battery may need charging, may be depleted, or may be defective. Turn the computer on, insert the battery, and then leave the computer running for several hours, which will deliver a slow, steady “trickle-charge” to the battery. Once the battery has been trickle-charged, it may begin working correctly again. If the trickle-charging does not prove effective, consider replacing the battery with a new one.

4 Connect the AC adaptor to a different power outlet, preferably in a different room. If the computer starts normally, there may be a problem with the AC outlet itself, or the voltage level available from it.

5 Verify that the AC adaptor is the correct unit for your computer model. The computer may not be able to start from an AC adaptor that is rated for less current (amperage) than the computer requires, even if the rated voltage is correct, and the plug fits correctly in the DC-IN socket. The labels on the bottom of the computer and the AC adaptor show the specifications for voltage ("V") and current ("A") for each device. The voltage level must match exactly. The amperage rating of the AC adaptor must be equal to or greater than that required by the computer

Regards
Mike
