How open flip camra S1240 model fir battery change
1- You will need a micro phillip head screw driver, small thin knife, tape or magnet, pencil and paper, micro flat blade screw driver, and good lighting.
2-Place a white cloth[towel]on the table, put your s1240 slide on the cloth, slide open the camera with the screen facing you as though you were watching a video.
3-Your going to remove the slide and screen from the body of the camera[seperate the top from the bottom] so, lets get at it.Look closely at the touch pad and you'll see it sets in it's own little oblong box, that box has a sticky cover, insert a knife blade under one corner, and gently pull[peel] the cover loose being careful to keep the cover as flat as possible,
because you will reuse the cover to hide all those little bitty screws and make the camera look pretty.
4-At this point you should see a thin and I do mean thin strip [sort of reminds of the pen stripes on a car] staring at you.So to pp you off ,they hid a screw under the thin strip. With the screen facing you ,the screw is hid in the left hand corner nearest you.peel the strip up enough to expose the screw head.
5-Grab your pencil[pen] and draw yourself a diagram and make some notes, count the screws, you don't want to loose those ity bitty screws inside the camera. Now,unscrew all of the screws, put the screws on tape or magnet.
5-Gently lift up the unscrewed plate, the touch pad will remain attached to the plate and so will the screen.Holly cow,you are looking at a circuit board, and guess what,no battery to be seen.Hang in there, you'll find it,I promise.
6-Take your pen, draw and make notes.Disconnect the ribbon [wire]from the circuit board to the screen, see the little white thin strip where the ribbon attaches to the circuit board, using a tiny flat tip screw driver, gently push up and away from the ribbon..The tab is hinged, like a trap door,it will stay attached but release the ribbon. There is a 2nd ribbon to your left, release
and disconnect it.The copper colored flat wire from the touch pad simple plugs in and unplugs by pulling on it[this wire will often come unplugged when you first pull the plate off the bottom housing, step 5]the wire goes in a white female plug on the circuit board.
7-At this point the screen, slide, plate, and touch pad should be free from the base[circuit board].Remove the screws from the circuit board[count the screws].
8-Using a plastic pry bar or small screw driver wrapped in tape, start prying from the opposite end from the headset jack.WARNING:THE CIRCUIT BOARD IS FRAGILE TAKE YOUR TIME.There are some very small holes in the circuit board that are smaller than the diameter of the screws, look closely and see plastic tips from the housing in the holes, using your round screw driver, push down in the holes as you pry up on the board,as the board loosen, keep the end opposite the earphone plug tilted up, this will allow the jacks to come out of the white plastic housing.
9-With the circuit board pulled up but not off ,you see four wires,[red, white, yellow, black]going from the circuit board to the Battery.Yep,kept my promise, there is the battery, draw a diagram and pay attention to the location of the black and red wire.At least one after market battery with four wires will allow you to plug the battery in backwards.also, the no name battery your going to buy off ebay for 14.95 has a different color code
wiring but does have the red and black wires and will work.final step, remove the two screws from the housing holding the battery in place and unplug it from the circuit board.
10-The camera will most likely pop out and that thing that looks like a black pencil eraser with a black and red wire going to it,well, that would be your microphone and goes in a round hole next to the camera.Draw and make notes.
11-The screws are all the same size.I strongly suggest that you buy a good micro screw driver and use a magnet to magnetize the tip otherwise, those itty bitty screws are almost impossible to handle.Plastic tweezers makes for an easy job of putting the ribbons back in the female plug and don't forget to snap the little plastic tab back in place on the ribbon connector.
Thank you. This is the best description I found of how to replace the battery in the Flip SlideHD S1240. A few extra notes -- the piece above in step 4 that the author describes reminding him of "pen stripes" looks like a gasket to me. The portion that needs to be peeled up is in the lower left corner and is about 1/8 inch wide. In step 6, the portion of the ribbon connectors that pivots up is a darker brown in my camera. When reconnecting the second ribbon cable, I had to remove a screw in the silver plate that the ribbon cable is attached. This allowed me to slide the lower left ribbon cable back into its socket. I found this easier than trying to bend the smaller ribbon cable back into the socket. I have not been able to reconnect the top/screen due to the difficulty of reconnecting the ribbon cable that is attached to it. However, I was able to charge the battery and copy the data from the internal memory without needing to reattach the screen. Recovering the data was my main goal. Thanks again to the original poster -- this was a tremendous help.

Hi,
Clean the metal contacts of the battery holder properly with dry cloth and then insert the new battery and check you are getting power to the camera.
If you still face the problem, then inner conductivity is lost between battery terminals and circuit board. You need to take to service center to get it repaired.
Hope this helps.

We suggest trying to reset your camcorder, and then attempt to charge it again.
To reset, simply take a pin and insert it into the reset hole within the camera's tripod mount, wait five seconds before powering on, and then power on without touching any of the buttons on the back of the camcorder for an additional five seconds. Check this procedure to solve it:
Procedure 1:
Take out the battery from your Flip Ultra HD
Plug the Flip into the USB
Once the "connected" indicator comes on, stick the battery back into the Flip
Choose the safe remove hardware option on your PC (or the Mac equivalent)
Once safe to remove, pull the Flip out of the USB port
Plug it back in - it should charge without a hitch now.
If the battery won't charge, give it 5 minutes before trying the second procedure.
Procedure 2:
Take out the battery from your Flip Ultra HD
Plug the Flip into the USB
Once the "connected" indicator comes on, stick the battery into the Flip
Empty your recycle bin (yes, it sounds silly, but there is actually a good reason for this)
Pull the Flip out of the USB without the safe remove
Plug it back in and check out if it's charging. If it doesn't start charging within 5 minutes, try the third procedure.
Procedure 3:
Take out the battery from your Flip Ultra HD
Plug it into the USB
Empty your recycle bin
Pull the Flip out of the USB without safe removal
Put the battery back in and try to charge.
Battery still won't charge? OK, the following may seem drastic, but it's guaranteed to produce results (even if just a pulsating vein on your forehead)
Procedure 4 (supplemental):
Curse
Resort to heavy drinking
Shout
Curse while drinking and shouting
Find a pear tree and dangle by your toenails
Try it; hope helps.
